For parents with multi-story houses, is your room on the same floor as your LO's? We are thinking of moving to a new house and LO's room would probably be on the 3rd floor while DH and I would be on the 2nd. Right now LO is 5 months and still sleeps in our room, but once he goes to his own room, I'm wondering if it's such a good idea to have him on a different floor than us.

Agreed with @tororojo - lots of exercise. Not sure what your LOs sleep habits are like but I was still up a lot during that time with my eldest. Doable. Tiring, but doable.

We're on the same floor, but I think it would be ok. If you love everything else about the house I wouldn't let that stop you.

We have sort of a split-level home - you walk in on one floor, go up 5 steps to the 2nd floor, where D's bedroom, the guest room, and the bathroom are, then up another 5 steps to our bedroom. D has been sleeping in his room since he ws 5 days old. I don't feel that it's been a problem at all!

I wouldn't want to just because I treasure as little moving around as possible at night but its doable.

I'm on a different floor and it'll be awhile before I'm comfortable with lo in his room, but with a really good monitor, I think it'll be ok (i have the motorola one). I've spent a lot if time worrying about it though!

I wouldn't be thrilled about it, but if everything else about the house is great then I don't see it as being a deal-breaker for me.

Our bedroom is the only one upstairs, all the others bedrooms are downstairs, including the nursery. DD's 11 months old and we haven't transitioned her into the nursery yet. Right now her crib's in the family room outside our room.
We plan on moving her to her room in the next few weeks. Because she's older, I'm not as worried as I would have been if we tried it when she was younger.

It's just a lot of exercise when they are still waking up (assuming you have a video monitor - I think that would be a must). But when they are older and STTN, it's not a big deal. We sleep on a different floor than my 3 year old. We moved her down at 2 something.

I don't think that would stop me. He's not going to be an infant forever.

We moved my daughter down to her nursery at 8 months. After that she was waking once or twice a night to feed, and it wasn't bad in general. Far better than her waking up half the night because I was right there with my boobs.

We looked for houses that have 3 br on the same floor. As the girls get older, we plan to make the upstairs into a master suite, but for the foreseeable future, we really appreciate having all the bedrooms right next to each other.

@Katrocap: My daughter went (at 8 month) from waking 2-5 times a night wanting to nurse for an hour to waking once to nurse for 15 minutes. Moving her out of my room was one of the best things I ever did for our sleep - I'll do it far earlier next time.

We are in a similar boat. We have an attic/bedroom and thats where LO is right now. Her soon-to-be bedroom is complete opposite end of the house from us one floor down. Her crib will actually be right under our bed so im sure we will be able to hear her should she cry. We are going to get a video monitor as well. The thing that scares me the most is what if there was a fire, it would most likely trap her from us.
