No, it's no excuse. If nothing else, it should make him think twice. HIS son was suffering, so he decided to slap HER son?
You still gotta be accountable and have some self control. He knows it was wrong.

No, it's not an excuse. I'm sure the guy was stressed beyond belief, because I can't imagine having to deal with a child in a coma, but there are no excuses or reasons to hit a child, EVER.

I also think it is an excuse, and it is clearly never ok to hit a child, but I think an 8 month jail sentence is excessive.

Wow what a terrible thing to say and do!!
8 months does seem like a lot though, relative to other punishments handed out...

I think 8 months for an assault on an infant is pretty justified. And I don't think having a brain-dead son is an excuse. If he were crying the entire flight because he was upset, YES, he has an excuse for that. Assaulting an infant, nope--no excuse.

Not an excuse, people are under duress all the time and don't lash out like that. Plus his use of the n word tells me about his character. That said, I feel that the prosecutors request for 6 months was sufficient, 8 is a touch harsh.

The man has a prior assault on his record, which is what prompted the judge to sentence him to 8 months rather than 6 months. This is a pattern of behavior for him. Whether or not he was suffering emotionally, there is never a good excuse to lash out at a child physically.

No excuse, ever for hitting an infant and ESPECIALLY a child you do not know. I'm glad he received a punishment.

That said, I don't know if it's excessive, but thinking of all the people who serve such reduced time these days I am a little surprised he got eight months. (Not saying it's the wrong amount of time but just that I wouldn't have expected that..)

A grown man ASSAULTED a defenseless BABY. I think 8 months seems like nothing.
If I'm going to teach my child to control his actions despite his emotions, then YES I expect an ADULT to do the same. If he was rude to the stewardess - understandable. But SLAPPING a BABY? Messed up.
