I wore LO in the ergo and bought a cheap plus-sized winter coat from Walmart that covered both me and LO. It wasn't stylish, but it did the job. I looked and looked for a bunting of sorts to put overtop of the ergo, but everything looked like it was meant for a nippy fall day, not cold winter.

We used an Ergo with the infant insert, and I wore my maternity pea coat and buttoned it around us both.

@oliviaoblivia: @Mrs. Tea: haha seriously that coat is pretty awesome AND stylish. But I can't drop close to $400 on a coat. Think I might have luck on eBay?
@Grace: That's what I want! Something over the carrier. It sounds really vain but our winters are SO long I don't want to feel and look frumpy for almost 6 months whenever we go out! For walks an oversized coat is fine; in which case I"ll just wear one of DH's. I'll swim in it but it'll do the job.

A jacket in a larger size, I went to TJ maxx and got a coat in a much larger size. Worked perfectly and cost $25.

@locavore_mama: I got lucky last winter and got mine for 30% off. I know they have good pricing at trade shows. It's pricey, but worth it with two January babies.

@looch: You know, that's a good point. I have a knee length down parka that I wore all through the winter of my first pregnancy when I was in the third tri. It might work for baby wearing. It's just a regular parka I like but it's a medium when I'm typically a S.

I did a couple of different things -
(1) LO in a heavy, quilted footed/hooded bunting over a sleep and play plus a hat, inside the carrier. Then I would wear an open coat and a scarf and just be cold.
(2) LO in less clothes and my husband's fleece zipped around the carrier.

an extra large vest.
Put baby in carrier and put the vest over the carrier and zip up. Then you can wear your regular coat over it.
or you can buy this http://www.kohls.com/product/prd-1802886/Infantino-All-Season-Hoodie-Baby-Carrier-Cover.jsp?ci_mcc=ci&srccode=cii_17588969&cpncode=27-342422986-2&CID=shopping15

I either put DD in regular clothes and wore a coat over us both (my preference), or I put her in in her own snowsuit and then in the carrier with my coat open.

I second the M coat, I also got it on sale....and I was big time hesitant because of the cost. What sold me was that I could also wear it without the insert and I actually needed a new winter coat, so I was buying a coat regardless last winter.
Before I bought it, I did a quick search on CL and found a couple of people selling, just not in my size.
Before the M coat, I had bought the jolly jumper snuggle cover: http://www.amazon.ca/Jolly-Jumper-Snuggle-Cover-Carriers/dp/B001P1VBH4
it was great but I didn't like that I couldn't zip my coat. DH used it all the time once I got my M coat. Very cheap too and I bought mine on CL for even cheaper.

@californiadreams: I'm going to check TO CL! haha Since it's a Canadian product I'll have better luck on Toronto CL I think.
And thanks, that cover is basically what I'm looking for. We have similar winters so did you find that cover warm enough? Without having to bundle LO up too much underneath the carrier?

@locavore_mama: oh amen! I will drool over it from afar for that price. If you end up finding one on eBay please tell me so I can envy you

@locavore_mama: evymama.ca is having a flash sale 40% off all their inventory tomorrow. Code is flash40. I bought my m coat there. They have a few other baby wearing coats as well.

@oliviaoblivia: I'm SO tempted!!! I don't think I can right now. But I think I will sign up for their newsletter in case another one pops up. Thanks for the heads up!

Not the most elegant solution but last winter I wore a Columbia 3 in 1 jacket, I took the shell and liner apart and then put on the baby, the liner on backwards and then the shell on properly which I could snap most of the way but not zipper. With a big scarf it worked really well. Our winter is long and cold and it did the trick although we never were out for more than 20-30 minutes at a clip.

Hmmm... This may be a necessity with a 2 year old that has to be outside all the time.

I wore a columbia (I think) omniheat shell that I wore for maternity too. I also had her in a snowsuit overtop of a dress coat when I wanted to look less frumpy, but I don't think that was terribly un-frumpy either. It was crazy cold here last winter, and the columbia jacket around both of us was by far the warmer option for us.

@locavore_mama: @oliviaoblivia: I was just coming on here to mention the Evymama flash sale Seriously though, that coat is all kinds of awesome, I wore it daily and wished I had taken the plunge earlier. I got mine in a sale, I think January time...

@locavore_mama: Well I'm hoping, big fingers crossed, to be pregnant this winter. Lots of crossed fingers etc etc. but even if I'm not I'll wear it when I carry A this year. See, it's THAT good
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
Also, I have the cover that @californiadreams: mentioned, and in managed fine until last winter, which was the bitch of all winters. I expect it would be totally fine for most winters, depending how much time you spend outside, but A was always toasty warm in it.
