Can anyone recommend a good back carrier for short hikes? We are heading to Tahoe and my DS is about 27-28 lbs. We own an Ergo but I feel like it might not offer enough support for hiking.

I LOVE the kinderpack. We regularly hike with it. Short hikes- 1 1/2- 3 hours. It is so comfortable and I like that you can buy it in sizes.

oh, and my LO is 25 lbs. and I guess I should say it is more like an ERGO than a frame pack, but that makes it super easy to travel with.
ETA- they come up higher in back than ERGOs, which keeps LO from leaning back.

For short hikes we love the kokopax. Light weight low profile frame carrier. For longer hikes the deuter.

My friend has the deuter kid comfort 2: http://www.deuter.com/us/us/kid-carrier/kid-comfort-2-46514-125.html
I think they bought it from rei. I recently borrowed it for my sister to use and was impressed!
