Why must bad things always happen in 3s?! I convinced myself we'd be done at 2 but noooo, of course not...
1. All sorts of house buying money issues
2. A LOT of money owed to Uncle Sam for taxes
3. DH just got in a car accident (1 of 3 cars - he's okay thankfully)
I hope this is it. Me and my wallet cannot take much more!

OH NO! i'm sorry about DH! thank god he's ok! and i hear you...we owe SO MUCH $ to uncle sam it makes me want to cry 
makes me wonder what our next 2 $ woes will be, ahhh!

@Pirouette: We owed last year and attributed it to the wonderful marriage penalty. We adjusted our withholdings and everything but apparently married 1 takes out less than single 1? I don't know. All I know is we owe twice as much and I almost cried on the phone with our accountant when he told me!

@LindsayInNYC: oh man, that sucks! yes, married 1 takes out less than single one, because despite what people think, most couples are not subject to a marriage penalty! i kept my withholding at single because it generally works out about even for us.
we owe this year because of some phantom income attributable to my husband, so we're paying tax on $ we did not and likely will not ever receive, fun!! plus DH's company didn't withhold NYC taxes for some reason, so that's fun too 
i may have actually cried after doing our taxes!
on a happier note, you should see a huge swing next year when you get all those homeownership benefits!!

@Pirouette: Ooh, I meant married 0 versus single 0. We're both at 0 so the only thing we can do is have additional amounts withheld. I really hope the mortgage interest helps seeing as we can't deduct student loan interest and will never be able to claim a LO. This is so unfair!

why will you never be able to claim a LO?
Will you be getting insurance money for the accident? That may not end up being too much of a financial burden if insurance will cover it..

@LindsayInNYC: it will help a lot, i promise! plus the real estate taxes. it adds up! plus, your NYS taxes should be slightly lower than what you were paying in NJ. and yea, i hear you on student loans and child credits, i'm right there with ya!

@LaughLines: i think she just meant not being able to claim the child credit. you could still claim the LO as a dependent, but the child credit phases out.

@LaughLines: Yes, @Pirouette was right - no child credit, just as a dependent. I know insurance will cover some of it, just not sure how much. Car behind DH is responsible for rear-end damage but because DH also hit car in front of him, we might be responsible for that (unless we can place the blame on rear car). Worse case scenario, we're out of the deductible for our insurance. I was going to have to ask my parents to borrow money for the taxes (I don't even know if they'll have it!) and now this. Ugh!

i feel your pain - we just had a similar "happens in 3's" series of events.... 1 - we also had to pay a ton of $ in taxes (ugh) 2 - washer/dryer died & we had to buy new ones (double ugh, but yay for fancy new washer & dryer) and 3 - got a flat tire that had to be replaced!
NO FUN.
Oh wait - 4, roof needed some repairs too (quadruple ugh).
hopefully we've both had our fill for a while.

We had this about 3 weeks ago. We had to have the car inspected, and repaired, then the dog got sick, then the thermostat on the car died not 6 days after the inspection. Maybe not as bad as some, but still quite a hit to a student budget!
