We moved recently, and we have a balcony in our new apartment. The balcony itself is fairly useless...it's really small and I don't intend on being out there much, especially since we have a full rooftop accessible to us. I have no intention of ever letting my son out there, because we could easily just go play on the rooftop.

The door to the balcony has a lock mechanism on it that requires you to pull the handle up to unlock the deadbolt. It's really hard to do. Additionally, the handle is at about chest height to me.

Is there any other steps we can take to ensure the balcony is safe? We were going to use one of those anti break in door stoppers, but the door has a small step, so it doesn't fit. Thoughts?
