Anyone ever had one of these removed? I'm having one removed from my arm on Wednesday and they told me I can't lift anything heavy for 4 weeks! I have another one on my scalp that I'm more scared to have removed, I haven't set that up yet. I'm glad it's just basal cell, but feeling very scared about all of it!

How big is it? I haven't had that but I've had a small growth removed from my finger which was tested "for" melanoma (negative.) I think it'll be fine, probably easier to recover from than birth. Good luck!

Haven't had this, but have had moles removed and remember going back to normal activity much more quickly than that...

@2littlepumpkins: Neither are that big, really. The nurse just said they take a really wide cut to make sure they get it all. As with everything, the anticipation is probably worse than the actual event.

My dad had a few spots removed on his head a few years ago and said it wasn't a big deal. He is bald so I don't know how it would compare. I have had 3 moles removed to check for melanoma - two big that required stitches and just last month a small one. The worst part is the injection to numb the area. I remember the ones they gave with the big ones felt like someone was jamming a needle in my back and spinning it around between their hands. The one I just got didn't feel good but didn't hurt anywhere near as much as I expected! As far as healing, it hurt to shower the next day and then got super itchy. Overall not major but I know it is probably different. I'm sure you will do great.

@skipra: They had to stitch me up where they took pieces to biopsy, and those shots do hurt! Although my husband is giving me Lovenox shots in my stomach every day during this pregnancy, and those hurt worse. I've had moles removed but it's been years and none required stitches. I think I'm just a bigger baby now than I was in my 20's.

My sister has had a number of them removed. The worst part for her is the no lifting- she has a four year old now so it's not as bad but it was really hard when he was still in a crib and high chair. She also scars badly so has to be really careful, and has a few keloid scars from them, but she already knew that she's a bad scar-er.
I would actually think the head one would be better since you don't move it as much, but I don't really know.

@Foodnerd81: I have a 3 year old, so I don't "have" to lift her (although she might say otherwise). I'm just worried about all of that cutting on my head... and possible bald spot. Vanity!

@LulaBee: I couldn't lift dd for awhile this pregnancy and it was actually difficult especially because she was still in her crib at the time.
but if it's just a few weeks you'll get through it! I think you're rigt about anticipation being the worst part!

@LulaBee: I've had one of these removed from my arm, and the cut was about an inch long and required 6 or 7 staples - it did take a little bit of time to recover full capability in that arm, but I was able to compensate by using my other arm for most of the weight, if that makes sense!

That's a lot! Did it take your arm a full 4 weeks to be able to use it all the way?Really, this whole experience has made me so much more insistent on sunscreen/sun protection.

@LulaBee: Ugh, I know, I wasn't expecting that big of a marking when I went in, but they said they wanted to make sure they had definitely gotten it all out. I still have a scar from it, and that was probably 7 or 8 years ago now. I'd say it took maybe a week and a half/two weeks to be able to use it all the way, but they cautioned me to take it easy for the rest of the month.
ETA: Ditto to the sunscreen! I'm a fanatic about it nowadays.

@T.H.O.U.: my surgeon is a specialist since it was on my face. I'd ask about what measures they take to minimize scarring. I'm not sure the size- but about the size of a frozen pea was taken out. I've had 3 biopsies total and the one on my face looks great since it was actually stitched up.

the one on my arm kelioded, I had one removed on my temple that didn't heal well and is still tender over a year later, one on my neck that was fine, and one on my chest that also kelioded. I don't heal well. I hope yours does okay!!
