Has anyone installed an upflush toilet?
We are considering adding a bathroom to a basement and digging up the slab is a no-go (not for budget but for code reasons).

@Littlebit7: did you buy a house? I haven’t, as a condo dweller, but curious what others say in case we ever have a house. I don’t even k ow what an upflush toilet is.

We are buying one, yes, and I’m exploring the options of adding something to the basement. It basically is like a garbage disposal and a pump. It can handle waste and water and pump it up if you are below the level of your sewer line or done want to dig up a slab

@Littlebit7: in town or nearby? You can always post in the mommies group. I have friends (they are really the parents of my kids’ friends because our nannies are sisters) that are doing a big basement reno right now, including adding a bathroom.

@Anagram: in town. Thanks! Yeah I’ll post there when we get a bit closer to closing I think; we are still a ways out.

We have a pump, but it came in the house 🤷♀️ it doesn't look complicated though.

@Sams Mom: do you know if it’s an ejector pump (with a pit?) or an upflush toilet?

@Littlebit7: it is a regular toilet with a lift pump I hope that helps

@Littlebit7: We have an ejector pump with a pit, which I think is what you can't do since you can't break up the slab? When we installed it our plumber said the upflush toilet systems break down a lot more / need to be repaired more, but we also didn't have the ceiling height to have one either.

We just put in a bathroom in our basement but I don't think we had to do what you are talking about. We were able to dig up the slab and connect with the current stacks that lead to our other bathrooms upstairs.

@Mommy Finger: yeah its a big code violation where i live to do that or else i'd do it in a heartbeat, or get them to rough one in before pouring the slab. But alas, it won't work.
