How many days after O do you ladies continue to BD? Did this affect your chances of conceiving?

There is no point in trying more than 36hrs after O (I'd usually say one day). You can check your cervix to see if its closed and no sperm can get through.

The latest we ever bothered was the day after O. It only survives for 24 hrs after being released.

Same as others - at most we only had sex the day after O (unless we were doing it just for fun).

I'm usually tired of BD by the time O arrives, and we try to the following two days, but wondering if by us not this last cycle might have caused us not to conceive. We did every other day so we BD O day, skipped the next day, and BD the following day.

@Alivoo01: I think it's more important to do it the days leading up to O day. Sperm can last up to 5 days (in ideal conditions), whereas your egg is only around for 24 hours or so. I think as long as you BD every other day (or so) leading up to O, you're covering your bases.

@Adira: We did. We started BD a couple days after AF left and BD every other day. There was a day or two where we BD back to back, but at least every other day. Unfortunately, I'm sitting at 12 DPO and got a BFN. Boo!

@Alivoo01: Blah, isn't that the worst?? When you feel like you've done everything right and you STILL get a BFN! I hate that! How do you feel your cervical mucus is (sorry, TMI!)? I found that I never had any EWCM, so I ended up buying and using pre-seed, which I think probably helped me get my BFP.

After 7 cycles of +OPK and BD'ing up to 2 days after the +, I finally got my BFP on the 8th cycle where we kept BD'ing for 8 days straight after the +OPK. So you never know!!

@Adira: I had EWCM a few days prior to actual O. Don't what it was that day though. I didn't check. I used preseed last month and got a BFN also so I skipped it this month. Maybe I'll pick it up again.
@cokiezombie: Oh wow!!! Maybe I'll try pushing through past O and continue to BD... At this point, if AF shows up on Friday, I'll be on Cycle 8 (month 9). I'm getting desperate...

@Alivoo01: If you get your own EWCM, you may not need the preseed - I used it because I wasn't producing any of my own. I hope you get a BFP soon.... it's so unfair when you time everything correctly and then still don't get one.

@Alivoo01: I think that cycle was successful because I'm sure I O'ed late (even though I got a +OPK).. because when I went in for my dating ultrasound, I was 2 weeks later than I thought!

@Alivoo01 - So once you're sure you've O'd I don't think its necessary. But it could be helpful if you think you're within the 24-36 hr window. I think the cervix closes up after that window. I heard somewhere that it takes a sperm an hour to get to the tubes, so there is a chance that last day. Though my acupuncturist told me that before is more useful because some sperm hang out in the nooks and crannies of the uterus and head up later on.
BTW, I'm always curious how scientists/doctors actually know this stuff?

I mostly just track O through temps, so I don't count it as confirmed O until 2-3 days after anyway, so we keep BDing until 3 days past. That way if it was just a random high temp, I won't miss my chance. But I'm more inclined to do every other day than every day after a high temp, I guess. We are only on cycle 2 so it's not like we have a routine just yet

Why don't you just BD after O for fun? My husband wouldn't be impressed if I all of a sudden didn't want to have sex anymore just because our chances of conceiving were over...

@QBbride: Haha that was my first thought too. But then I read the question as 'when do you make a point to BD'-- we still do after O, but it's those days leading up to it that I'll initiate even if I'm not particularly in the mood.
