Not much! A hat, reusable swim diaper and rash guard, sunscreen stick (much easier to apply) and perhaps a sand shovel...though my kids as babies were just as happy with a plastic cup!

Oh, I did read to bring baby powder, and it takes the sand right off when you're ready to go home!

Not a must have, but nice to have a tent for them to nap under. We also brought a blow up baby pool to fill with ocean water and floating toys for them to sit/splash in!

A big blanket and an umbrella for shade - neither of my kids were fond of the sand at their first beach trip!

I wish we had brought a big tent or an umbrella because the sun definitely got hot. We did bring a few toys for the car ride, either new or toys she hadn't played with in a long time, and every hour or so I would give her a new toy and take one toy away (just so she wouldn't get buried under them). The PNP was an epic fail because she refused to sleep in it. We also brought two swim diapers just in case she pooped while we were at the beach.

My favorite sun hat is the Flap Happy.
Some sort of shade - whether it's an umbrella or tent.
I also keep the diapers/extra clothes/snacks in separate ziplocs and use a big 31 Organizing tote for my beach bag.
If you go to the beach often, a Go Pod is great. We borrowed one last summer and this year we bought a collapsible folding high chair. But we go to the beach at least every other weekend, and drive our truck on to the beach.

We took a PeaPod to the river and it was perfect for LO to nap in. I would bring something for shade for everyone too.
