Hellobee Boards

I haven't installed it myself, but HGTV males it look easy. I especially love beadboard in bathrooms for a cottage feel.

We are installing one right now in our laundry room. If you have basic handyman (handywoman?) skills you should be able to do it no problem.

We did our at 60" so we had to buy the 8' panel and have it cut down, but they sell pre-cut pieces with tongue and grove edges at the height of your picture that would make installation even easier.

We read several tutorials online and used liquid nails and small tack nails to install it, but you would probably be fine using only the liquid nails.

We bought white pre-finished boards, but we are painting them too. Hopefully I will finish painting them and install the trim at the top tonight.

Yes! We did this with our nursery. I'm at work today, but later tonight or tomorrow I can elaborate. It was a lot of work, but I absolutely LOVE it!

We did the bead board in our powder room. We used the 8' sheet and cut them down to just below the window they were preprimed in white. We used liquid nails (its a thick glue that comes in a caulking tube) and a few finishing nails at the top and bottom and along some of the more difficult seams. The first picture shows the beadboard before trim was added. We caulked the crap out of all the seams and painted the boards 2 coats of white. Then we added a ledge instead of chair rail and wide baseboards. We caulked all those seam and nail holes and painted some more. 2nd picture is finished.

DH has done it in our half bath downstairs and said it was one of the easiest parts of the bathroom reno! He also used liquid nails!

It really is easy to install, especially if you get the sheets. Like pp have said, get some liquid nails to help hold it to the wall so you can use less nails, and be careful about where you put finishing nails along seams, where they won't be covered by your baseboards and chair rail. That was the hardest part, hiding the finishing nails along the seams, since the beadboard sheets are so thin, it was really hard to get the nails buried deep enough to smoothly cover them with wood filler. My husband ended up dremeling a few of the nail heads down, just so they'd hide better.

Oh, and also, if you are doing the sheets and think there's any chance your beadboard might get wet, I highly recommend a coat or two of polyurethane after you paint it. The beadboard sheets are just flimsy particleboard under a layer of primer, that will swell and bow if they get wet at all. The Minwax Water-Based Polycrylic Protective Finish in “Clear Gloss” is great for over white paint, since it really does dry clear, and not with a yellow tinge like some polys have.

@LindsayInNYC: Technically, you don't *have* to remove the baseboards and can install the bead board above them, but it won't look professional.

To remove the baseboards, use a utility knife to score along the baseboard at the top where it meets the wall. This will prevent your drywall and paint from ripping when you remove the boards.

Then, starting at one end, use a stiff metal putty knife and work it between the wall and baseboard slowly pulling it out. It takes some elbow grease. You can remove any nails left in the boards and reuse them. We were really sloppy and are just going to buy new ones since our space is small.

I've never done it, but I hear it's easy. I love the look of it!
