Would any bees be interested in meeting up in London or surrounding area?
I'll be visiting Starting April23rd and will have a rental car, but would prefer to meet in central London somewhere. Maybe Hyde park, but open to suggestions.
Is anyone available? If so, does weekdays work, or is weekend better?

I would! That weekend works fine for me, as far as I know, and so do the weekdays (although the tube is twice as expensive on a weekday). If we do weekend, Saturday is best. Half the stuff in this country is closed on Sundays. lol

Ooh, Id love to! London is pretty far for me (3hr drive/tube or £140 train) - I work down there a couple of tines a week though and Im there on Fri 26th (and free in the afternoon) but I see that's not an option!! I have my glucose tolerance test on the Sat morning but could probably make the afternoon (do the tests take long?!)..... Otherwise, Sunday is good.

sounds like fun and it would be so nice to meet up but I'm pretty tied up for the rest of the month! But I'll keep an eye on this thread in case it turns out I'm nearby on whatever date you settle on

@Cherrybee: I can't imagine you'll want to meet up after your test. It takes a while and really threw my system for a loop. All I could do was sleep

@Cherrybee: there's a three hour test and a 1 hour test. I forget where you are?
I didn't pick Friday since I'm thinking I will be in somerset Wednesday thru Friday night, but could probably rearrange my schedule. Nothing is set in stone yet!
I need to research tube stations with lifts, etc! I'm going to spend the rest of the day (whichever day we choose) taking pics of LO in front of London landmarks. I have a really cute picture from when I was a baby, where I was stroking the furry hat of one of the queens horse guards. -
@evenstar982: my dads family is from Ipswich so will probably head out there one day!
My moms side is from somerset. -

@zippylef: @Cherrybee: @illumina:You guys seem mostly northwest of london if your HB profiles are accurate. Would it be better to meet somewhere in Cambridge?
We will be staying near Luton so it's just as easy to do Cambridge vs London. It seems like there are some nice playgrounds there.
If I recall correctly, 2 of us have LOs @zippylef and I, and @Cherrybee and @illumina have LOs on the way.What do you think? Are you still available? It would be nice to hang out with someone other than grandma while we are there.

@wheres_c: Sun 27th works great for me and Cambridge is much, much better for me than London! That knocks a whole hour off my travelling and it means I can drive there!
Illumina knows that area so perhaps she can suggest a nice park, with a great playground and coffee /ice cream availability?

@zippylef: I thought that when Cambridge was suggested! London is a nightmare from where you live, isn't it? I have regular meetings in Norwich and it's bad enough from Birmingham, where I'm based (3hrs) - but my London colleagues have to stay in hotels the night before!

@MegWag: Certainly not to a playground! It'd need to be a day in a spa, dinner and an all expenses paid night in a hotel to justify that kind of trip! It'd take you 4.5 hours to get there!!

@zippylef: I go on the A14 all the way when I go to our Norwich office. I love it out there, all fields! Just perfect! And you're not too far from the coast, either! I'd move there in an instant!

@Cherrybee: Yeah, we're pretty nicely situated about halfway between Norwich and Cambridge and about an hour from the coast and from Epping Station to get into London. It's pretty nice here.

Yes ili meant the 28th. Silly me.
Im getting super nervous about driving... I know I need to, but ive only driven on the left twice, never on the motorway and never with baby in the car. Tell me I will be ok! Im not talking about driving to cambridge, I just mean in general...will be going to middlesex, suffolk, bedfordshire and somerset -
@wheres_c: You're going to be just fine!! After a while it will be like you have always driven on the left! Just remember to go round roundabouts in a clockwise direction and give way to the right when you enter the roundabouts!!! Most of your journeys will be on motorways and A roads anyway - so long, straight roads! Just stay in the left hand lane (the "slow lane") and go nice and steady until you're feeling more confident!
Get some green P plates if you want -they're like the red L plates for learners but they're a green P. You stick them on your car, front and back, and they mean that you've just passed your test! The idea is to alert other drivers to be a little more considerate and forgiving of any mistakes you make. Of course no-one is forgiving over here, but it might make you feel a bit better, knowing you've given them a warning!!

@wheres_c: You should be okay. It actually doesn't take as long as you think to get used to it. Although you may want to do Park and Ride so you don't have to drive in Cambridge. It can be a little confusing. If you want, I can meet you at one of the Park and Ride stations and we can go in together.

@zippylef: Ooooh!!!! I'm liking the sound of that, too!!!!! I might take the park and ride myself, if you can tell me where it is, please (if you know the name of the park, I can get the postcode and punch it into my sat nav). I presume the buses are really regular?

@Cherrybee: The only one I know where it is is the one in northern Cambridge, by the airport. Let me find the postcode.
ETA: Well, I guess it's more like eastern. The one I'm thinking of is Newmarket Rd. I drive past it whenever I go into Cambridge.

@Cherrybee: Nando's is right next to the Grand Arcade, which has a parking garage. Not sure about playgrounds, but I know theres a big park not terribly far away. Illumina would probably know better than I would.
And C has eaten at Nando's with us several times. She likes it.

Nando's sounds great! It's one of my favourites, but DH isn't keen so we hardly ever go! There is a multi storey at Grand Arcade right in the centre, close to Nando's but it is pretty expensive on the weekend, like maybe £10-15 for a few hours, so I'll get the park & ride in which drops off right by there anyway. There are several big parks in the centre area too, not sure if they have playgrounds- cant say it's something I look for at the moment tbh but I'll keep an eye out next time!

@evenstar982: Yeap, Where's_C suggested it as it's a bit easier for everyone - it's closer to you Norfolk-way folks, closer for me (Midlands) and ideal for Illumina! I think it's an ingenious idea!
