I am on a quest to get my daughter's nursery dark! Do you have a window solution for me?
I used a gift card to buy a sailcloth blackout curtain from Pottery Barn and have been unimpressed.

We just use the pulldown roller blind from Ikea and it's worked fine..

We got these for our room as well as LO's

It makes the room SO dark. Its amazing. Plus they block out cold/heat. There is one window in our room that gets direct sun in the summer afternoons and makes the room SO hot but having this blind down completely blocks the heat.

These are so not pretty, and not easy to open and close, but if you are just looking for something to make it DARK, these redi shades from Home Depot will do the trick. They are essentially black construction paper folded accordion style but when applied right her room is pitch black. You'd want pretty curtains in front though.

I have all IKEA and they block light but I have to manually roll them up! It's so annoying.

@Happygal: we also have a black out curtain from PBK that isn't very blackout - I put a bamboo roman shade behind it and it made a huge difference! So, if you want to keep the PBK ones just add a cheaper liner behind it.

I heard that the premade ones you buy aren't that good and that the best ones are made with blackout material you buy at the fabric or craft store. You can customize it and find a cute print to match your nursery.
That's what I did. Though, I did not know the quality part until I started looking into DYIing my own.
I do have Amazon blackout curtain and I'm looking at it now and it does suck. Then looking at the blackout curtains I got my aunt to make me are so much better.

We have cordless cellular blackout blinds that we got on Amazon. You just measure the windows and buy the correct size. I didn't want to mess around with trimming anything. I seriously love them. We have them in our bedroom, the nursery and guest room. We live in the city with bright street lights shining into our windows and these make the room pitch black. Worth the money for sure and they are cordless-so yay safety! https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00D769E8S/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1446586602&sr=8-2&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=Cordless+blackout+cellular+shade&dpPl=1&dpID=41LO9G9GcAL&ref=plSrch
ETA: I also sew and made a custom blackout curtain with the special fabric and these blinds are WAY better.

@Portboston: @peaches1038: @ShootingStar: did you all do an inside or outside mount for shades that are cut to order? It seems like an inside mount would be the best for avoiding light leaks.
@Mamaof2: That's good to know! I love the layered look. We moved to a street with street lights that shine into her room, and she has an extra window now. That means I would have to buy a matching panel from PBK, and part of me wants to avoid doing that just on principle, but the other part of me doesn't want the one shade to go to waste!

I have small windows, so I did an outside mount on our cordless roman shades.
The best option I could find (not expensive) for cordless roman shades was Country Curtains.

I just couldn't justify some of the more expensive ones to myself so I got some from target and they work GREAT. I put them on curtain rings to make it easier to slide open and closed and mounted them so they slide past the window and hang above the window so there are no leaks.

I got these for D's room when we moved and they are awesome. https://www.halfpricedrapes.com/solid-blackout-curtains.html I plan to get more for Babygirl's room.

@Happygal: we have blinds in the windows so we had to do outside mount. They still get the room very dark.
