I'm trying to think of more at home date night activities we can do to get us out of the rut of just watching tv/movies. What are you favorite board games that you and your SO can play?

Following! We really like Ticket to Ride and Monopoly Deal (a card game of Monopoly).

It helps if you know what kinds of games you like. There's a two player version of almost everything. Some that we have are:
Lost Cities
Five minute dungeon
Rivals of Catan
Seven Wonders Duel
Terraforming Mars (4 player but works with two)
Imhotep (4 players but fun with two)
I check stuff out of the library often because I like trying new games more than I like playing the same thing over and over.

We have a superhero deck building game that is actually really fun. DH is a DC fan so I bought it for him a few years ago and its probably my fav game we have!

Imperial Settlers
Dominion (card game)
Scrabble
Splendor (seems simple but involves a lot of strategy; I am actually not a big fan, but everyone else seems to like it)
Pandemic (a cooperative game)

I think Jenga is fun
We haven't played it in a long time, but we used to play Words With Friends on our phone, it was a cute way to stay extra connected during the day. I should ask him if he wants to do it again!

@brownepiano: This is actually a good question. I don't really know b/c we haven't actually played a lot of games. He has historically liked games that test your knowledge, like Trivial Pursuit, b/c that man knows so many useless facts. Scrabble would be up his ally too but not mine. I tend to like more strategy games. I grew up playing Rummicub with my grandparents so I thought that would be a good one but he didn't seem to get it. Maybe we should try it again. A lot of the games we've played over the years have been in larger groups.
@brownepiano: I hadn't thought of checking out my library. Great tip!

The “Travel” version of Blockus is two-player (and in spite of its name is not an annoying mini size).

Mrs. Garland did a blog post a few years back. If I remember correctly she and her husband have a TON of board games.

@Mommy Finger: The board games available have really changed since my childhood! There's tons of word games beyond just Scrabble now: Quiddler, Up words, Code names or Code Names Duet (that one combines strategy and useless knowledge!) There's also games based on different interests: Math games, puzzle games, deck building games (where you choose cards to add to your hand and slowly build up a "deck" to use), co-operative games, ancient history games, geography games...
My husband and I sometimes watch a play-through of a game to see if we want to try it and to learn the rules easily. Table Top is a good show for watching games. We also check them out of the library and try them before we buy. But that's only because we already have a bunch at this point!

Code Names Duet!
We also really enjoy cooperative games. Some favorites are: Pandemic, Dead of Winter, and Chronicles of Crime
