I am as tan as a snowflake, and I'm looking for a little artificial color before shorts/bathing suit season. I've only tried the Jergen's lotion and I turned orange... not a good look. So, help me out: what's your favorite, natural looking at-home self tanner (lotion or spray)?

@photojane: I haven't really used the gradual ones, but St Tropez self tanner products worked really well for me back in the day when I used to bother with it:) The one I liked best was a spray can of it, and all of their products somehow do not matter as far as application. Like no matter how much you spray in one spot vs another, it's always even. It's basically magic in a bottle. Unfortunately, it was like $30 a can if I remember, and I only got 2 full body sprays out of it. I *think* I used to do it every 4 or 5 days. So it was expensive.

If I need a tan for something, like a wedding (so rare!), I get the spray tan at my salon where they do it with a gun, and those last a week, and you can rinse it off after like 2 hours and it's perfect the next day. If there's any specific time you want one, those are the best. But other than that, I got nothin'.

I love tan towels. I'm red headed with freckles and they take off the blinding whiteness without looking fake. They are super easy to use.

St. tropez and Estée lauder used to work best for me. Make sure to exfoliate too.

St. Tropez! I use the foam with a glove and I've gotten quite a few uses out of one bottle. It doesn't smell gross and it's subtle, not blotchy or streaky (as long as you shower 4 hours after applying). I'm going to try one by tarte because its suppose to look more glowy so I'll have to report back.

I always liked loreal for drug store brand and clarins for department store.

St Tropez Foam or Clarins Delectable Slef Tanning Mousse. Texture of Clarins is great and so moisturizing, smells good too.

@photojane: I actually recently ordered some tan towels because I'm so ghostly white. I've used them before and really like them. I've also used the St Tropez mousse, but I love how easy the tan towels are to apply and your skin dries super quickly so you don't have to walk around naked waiting to dry. And they're reasonably priced.

Up until last summer SoBronze was my go to but now I'm in love with Fake Bake's Flawless. It's applied with a mitt. It's instant color, long lasting, doesn't wear off and best of all doesn't have a chemical smell - it actually smells good!
