Do you know what position the seat will be in (center, passenger side?). We had an average sized sedan and the chicco Nextfit fit tightly behind passenger, and fine in the center seat. It seemed to take up the least space front to back (but is not narrow side to side).

I have a diano in my 2014 ford focus. It's a bit of a squeeze but it works. And it's a very safe carseat. It doesn't work in the middle position because it blocks my visibility too much so I have it behind the passenger seat. You really have to scoot the passenger seat up so it can be a bit of a squeeze for anyone riding in that seat.

If you're nervous about installation, I highly recommend the Britax Click Tight line. It seriously could not be easier. The Advocate is top of the line and is what I chose for my LO, and you may be able to find it around $300 if you get a good sale. The Marathon, which is one step below, is also a great seat.

The Advocate fits just fine in our Honda Civic Hybrid. We still have it reclined quite a bit and in the center position -- if we moved it behind one of the front seats, we'd have to change the angle but there's plenty of room to do that (I think 7 or 9 recline positions? Can't remember offhand).

I have a myride and my husband has a focus wagon. It stays in my van, but once in a while we put it in there. It fits, but we have to put it on passenger side because we have to move the front seat forward too much for rear facing. I'll be following this thread for other carseat ideas for it.

@clumsyatheart: you can also post this on the Car seats for the Littles page on Facebook- if you tell them your car and requirements they can often recommend what will work for you. And they are extremely safety conscious.

I also really recommend you make yourself comfortable with the installation yourself. I wanted that to be dh's job, but then I didn't trust that it was done well enough anyway so I read a lot and watched you tube videos (car seat lady is good). Now I can move and install my seat in any car pretty much. But it took a while for me to feel comfortable.
