You would be surprised how inaccurate those estimations are. I actually don't even know why they do them! My best friend's daughter was estimated to be 10 lbs and she ended up being 7.5. I don't have any advice other than to definitely try for vaginal birth. You might either be surprised by a) what your body is capable of and b) the fact your baby is smaller than they said!

@gingerseaglass: How big were DH and you when you were babies?

I work in a mother baby unit, and you would really be shocked how many moms are expecting huge babies but get little bitty ones! Just last week a mom told me they were expecting a 10 pounder by u/s measurements, but the baby was a little peanut at 7 pounds 2 ounces. I'd definitely take their measurements with a grain of salt.

I know that measurements are often wrong but not always. My best friend (who is tiny) had an ultrasound at 40 weeks 4 days and they estimated baby to be 9 lbs 15 oz and decided to do a c-section that day. He was born at 9 lbs 13 oz, so almost dead on! She never dilated at all! Just another perspective

My son was 9 lbs 10oz and 23 inches. We had been told he was probably going to be bigger (between 8-9 lbs) but he was cooking a little longer than 40 weeks :). I was scheduled for my induction at 41w 3d and ended up going into labor naturally that morning. I attempted to deliver vaginally (with an epidural) but his head was too big so I ended up having a c-section.

If it makes you feel any better, I was never dilated any more than 1 cm for the entire pregnancy. They put me on pitocin once my water broke and I went from 1 to 10 in about 6 hours. Good luck- at least the end is in sight :).
