Anyone else have a big LO? My 4.5 month old is 19 lbs, 27 inches (90-95th percentile for both W & L). I know people are well-intentioned, but I get so tired and slightly self-conscious of people commenting on his size. "What a BIG baby!", "Your baby can't be ONLY 4.5 months!", etc.

DD is over 99% in ht and 95% in wt it drives me nuts when people comment about her size. I feel like they are insinuating that I'm feeding her too much even though she's just EBF.

People usually would tell me that lo looks healthy. Code word for plump. She's in the 90th percentile for height and weight. I don't mind the comments though.... She's a big girl and it's a natural reaction to comment I think.

My son was larger too. At 4 months he was 18 lbs but only 25"...I sometimes got the big baby comments or the comments that it made sense he was so big since he was EBF (really?), but honestly I never viewed him as a "big baby". He never looked fat or massive to me and always looked proportioned. His head wasn't too large for his body and he didn't have rolls...he just weight a lot. Now he is 2 and 28 lbs. He has definitely slimed out some and still fits the 18-24/2T clothing he started wearing this time last year.

I have the opposite problem
My LO has always been around the 10th-15th percentile and everyone and their mamas feels the need to comment on her size. "Don't you feed her?" "Why is she so small?" I think people should just stop commenting on baby's sizes - it's annoying both ways!

Yep. DS has just about the same stats. I get a lot of "he's a big boy" comments, but it doesn't bother me too much. (I kinda like it?)
DD was a big girl too. At 2 years old she's tall for her age, but in the 50th% for weight.

Yup! LO is now 21 months old and we are still hearing it. Most people think she's about 3 years old. When I feel like people are being rude, I respond with something about how she's a healthy girl or that we love her and are planning to keep her.

We're also on the opposite end with our oldest. She's 4th percentile for everything but head size. Lots of comments.

My LO gets the "What a ....healthy baby" comments a lot. She's 5 months and is over 18 pounds. She's solid though, getting wonderful core muscles, and only a few rolls. Neither DH nor I are petite, small individuals, so it makes sense.

My kids aren't really that big (like 20-21 lbs at 10 months), but because they are twins, I guess people expect them to be smaller, so we get the 'they are so healthy' or 'so big' a lot. I usually just make a comment about how we were lucky they were full term, so pretty much just like any other baby.
Even the nurse at their recent checkup made this huge stink about how they couldn't only be 9 mo, and looked more like a year, and we MUST stop feeding them so much. Uh, ok, thanks?

Honestly, I love me a chunky baby. I think baby rolls are the cutest things EVER. Sadie's been petite, but she's starting to put on some rolls & I'm DYING over them.

I either get "She's so big!" Or "She's so petite!" She is actually very tall, but only 10% in weight. The comments are at either end of the spectrum, though. Either way, even the well intentioned comments make me feel like I've done something wrong.

My 10th percentile toddler has the opposit problem, and boy am I getting tired of people cautioning their kids not to hurt the baby! She's almost two. People should stfu about size.

Yep. C was born at 10lbs8oz, was 16lbs at 4 months and 21lbs by 6 months. Shes almost 14 months old now and shes 26lbs and 32". Shes 95th for height and 90th for weight. Shes not even chunky, just really, really tall and her weight it proportionate.
Ive gotten comments her whole life about her size. People always assume shes lder than she is.

Yup!! Was at a party with LO and Dh and this lady ( I didn't know her) was like aww, your baby is so cute, he is what 3-4 months old? And I was like, nope he is 5 weeks old-
She was like, well he is so big- he is only 9.6 lbs.... And was born 8.6- so he really isn't that big!!!! -
Both if my nieces and nephews were super chunky. People would ask my sister all the time what they were feeding them (just breast milk). I mean..... Really fat, adorable babies. They were both insatiable eaters too.
They are both totally normal (actually on the skinny side ) now at 6 and 10.
Chubby babies are the cutest in my opinion anyway. I realllly want a chubby babe. But my husband was a really skinny baby, so we will see whose genes win!!

we got it all the time...'how old is he? oh wow! hes a big boy isn't he?!' he wasn't super heavy, it was more his length. and he's a very solid little boy.

People always think LO is older than she is. She's pretty consistently been 95-97% for height and 90% for weight. Because she's proportionate, she's not really chubby, she's just big. She's the same size or bigger as a few 18 month olds we know (she's 10 months).
DH's grandfather even said that she came out looking a month or two old. She was big plus she just looked older. At her 9 month appointment she was 21 lb 7 oz and 29.25 inches.

Both of my kids are at the top of the charts for height. I joke that we breed giants.
Don't let it bother you. Big or small, all of our LOs are perfect!

@sarac: I'm sorry you have the opposite problem. I know folks mean well (at least I hope they do) but they should keep their mouths shut about size if they don't know the situation.

Yep at 4 mo LO is about 16 lb and 26". People comment all the time but I kind of like it
they comment more on his length. He isn't too chunky !

DD was consistently 80-90% for height and 70-80% for weight, and we got all kinds of comments, "What a big girl!" to "What a little peanut!" People don't really know, I think they're just trying to make conversation.

my DD is actually the opposite and a small baby (5% for weight, 25% for height) but I also get annoyed with the comments of "there is no way she's almost 8 months old, she looks like she's the size of a 4 month old" um...yes I must be confused about when I gave birth to my daughter you are right....Sigh. I just smile and say she's just a petite little thing!

LO is 85/85 in height and weight. People are always surprised to hear how old he is and then follow it up with he is BIG what do you feed him. I really fight the urge to say 'breastmilk' with a smile ha!
I try to take it as a compliment that we are growing a happy and healthy nugget. I am sure that the 'he/she is so tiny' comments are just as annoying!

My son has always been in the 90th percentile for height and weight. I've always thought it was a huge relief since I've never had to worry much about if he's eating enough or gaining enough. One less thing to stress about!

Yepp, my son is... Solid
At 7 months he was just over 20 pounds and almost 28 inches. Plus he likes to stand up and walk holding our hands so people always think that he's older. I don't really mind. I always respond with "Yepp, he's a big boy!"

I totally get tired of those comments! LO is 11 weeks old, 97% in height/weight at last week's appt. I get annoyed when people call her chunky/fat even though I know it's probably meant as a compliment?

people comment all the time, but never in a negative way -
My son is 3.5 months and 19-20 lbs 26 inches long. We are in a parents group and he is the youngest and the only babies bigger than him are the 8 and 9 month old babies. I don't get bent out of shape over "big boy comments" because I know he is, and knew he would be from my pregnancy. He's healthy and that's all that's important, he can grow to his heart's content.

you should all be proud of those big babes!!! when LO was younger I got a few of those comments and I felt sorta proud... now he's really dropped and I've had a few people comment about how small he is and I feel sorta bummed, but I try not to take it personally! Every baby grows differently!
