Heres my problem.
1. LO is 15 months 30 pounds and 36" tall. I would love to rear face for as long as possible.
2. We live in NYC and dont own a car. This means every time (a few times a month) we go somewhere in a car I am installing the seat and carrying it around. Sometimes it goes in taxis.
So, I need a seat that is good for a large baby, light weight and easy to install.
Right now I am looking at the Evenflo SureRide or the Maxi Cosi Pria 85. What am I missing?

Have you looked at the britax click tight line? Not sure what the limits are but they are so easy to install!!

@sslm: They are just under 30 pound each. I am hoping for something a little easier to carry around... but the install sounds so easy! I just will never get it from the car to my apartment with anything else in my hands.

I haven't used those two. Our graco milestone is easy to install and weighs 19 pounds. If the extend to fit is easy to install and light, it could be a great choice since the weight limit rear facing is higher than most (50 lbs).

We have the maxi cosi Pria and it seems too heavy to lug around. We bought a Cosco Scenara for travel and it is really light and easy to install in taxis. It's also about $40, which is great if you aren't using it every day. Not as padded as the maxi cosi but my toddler has never complained.

The Pria series (we have Pria 70s for each kid) is way too heavy for lugging around, unless the 85 is significantly lighter than the 70 (which I doubt). It's a fabulous seat, but I can't imagine putting it on top of a stroller or carrying it - you'd have to have storage at your destination.
What about a Cosco Scenera? It rear faces til 40 lbs...once LO is too tall for that, they also do a high back booster with a 5 pt harness. The install is not really any different from our Pria(s) - we have Sceneras at the Grandparents'.

I would do the Cosco Scenera too. My DS was about that big at that age, but then he slowed way down. Now at almost 3 he's 38 lbs and still fits in the Scenera.

The Evenflo SureRide, Maxi Cosi Pria 85, and the Cosco Scenera Next all rear face to 40 inches I believe. If you are fine with that height limit I would go with the Evenflo or Cosco - although the cosco will be outrown for forward facing while rear facing. But for $50ish you get an easy to install and really light seat.
For seats with higher limits you will be looking at something heavier. A Graco Extend2fit would be great for you but it's heavy.

The Graco Size4Me/MySize/Headwise have one of the highest rear-facing heights out there. That's what we have and love them.

@MrsSRS: I am waiting for the slow down....
we install the car seat in a lot of different cars including older cars. I think i an realizing that the seat having seat belt lock offs is more important then weight. I just had a horrible time trying to install my friend evenflo because of this.

The lightest on the list is the combi coccoro, which he is already almost outgrown rear facing. I'm pretty sure the second lightest is the Britax Roundabout, followed by the Britax Marathon and Boulevard. [the regular versions, not the clicktight--clicktight are way heavier].

The Britax Marathon's are really easy to install using seatbelts, but my LO outgrew his rear facing by 2 ish. We ended up upgrading to the Chicco Nextfit for the older seatbelt car (which doesn't have built in locking mechanism for seatbelt) and the Graco 4 ever for the newer/latch using car. I worry the Chicco would be too heavy for carrying around though.

@AggieDaze: They recently changed the height limit on the Britax line. It used to be limited by the shell height, but now the child just needs to be an inch shorter than the height adjustment handle. That makes the seat usable for a lot longer.

We have the Clek Fllo for our 10m and 3 yo and love it. Much lighter than the Foonf (their other carseat, which we also have in another car) and easy to install.

Thanks everyone for all the info. Car seats are so confusing! We are going to check out a few today and see how it goes. Looks like light weight maybe the one of the 3 things I need that doesn't happen. More work for my buff mom arms.
