A friend of mine said that the Diaper Genie was her biggest waste of money.

We have a Babyjogger City Select stroller, it was more than most people I know would spend on a stroller but worth it for us, as we are very active and wanted a stroller that would be portable, sturdy and easy to use, and has room for 2 when the time comes for the next one.

I like the diaper genie. Especially because my dog loves LO's poo so we can't just toss it in the trash. He would always try to eat it if we did.

I don't have my LO yet, but when I nannied, the diaper genie was fantastic. Only downside was having to empty it..it made up for all the hidden smells with each diaper!!! LOL! whoo-ee.

we plan to register for baby jogger city mini stroller, and I'm so excited. I have never used one (and my opinion might be different if I had extra money!) but I can't justify spending the 1000+ on those brand name strollers. hot damn..lol my CAR was 4000!

I don't think I bought big brand names for anything in particular except maybe if you count furniture. But I just wanted nice furniture since besides the crib, we will be able to use everything all throughout LO's childhood so I felt like that was worth it.

I hated the PUJ tub. I don't see how it could be useful for anyone with a standard size sink. We only used it 2 or 3 times.

I can't really think of any other big name/popular items that i hate but I was really disappointed in the PUJ after reading all of the amazing reviews.

We have a Chicco stroller and I really love it. It isn't the cheapest stroller but it's affordable. It's easy to collapse and it rides smoothly. My only complaint is about the basket underneath. It's not very big and it's pretty much impossible to get to if the seat is lying flat (like when the carseat is snapped in).

@Sweet T: That's exactly how I feel about our Chicco stroller. Unlike other strollers I've tried, I'm glad that it's so easy to push with at least one hand.

As far as expensive stuff, we mostly went with everything that was the middle of the road. We did get a more expensive pump and monitor, but I feel they were worth it.

@Rubies: Yes. He's broken into her room (the door was shut) when we were gone and managed to open up her diaper pail to lick the poo off the diaper. He also eats his own puke. He's pretty gross.

@artbee: eek. what's that called when women eat dirt and all? i think your dog might have it haha.

i don't have any experience yet with baby products, but i do know for a FACT that i tend to buy the "cheaper" things, which i end up tossing and buy the more expensive name brand stuff. =T unfortunately, for the MOST parts, i think you get what you pay for.

i say stuff like car seats, strollers, baby crib furniture - stuff that should last a long time or protect your baby, it's better to splurge. but stuff that they'll only wear once or so (clothes) is something that maybe we don't need to spend so much money on.

I second getting the book "Baby Bargains" - great reviews and down to earth advise on what to buy.

I agree that you definitely don't need a brand name crib since there's no moving parts on the crib, you also don't need a fancy motorized swing, or a changing table (just use the changing pad on top of a flat surface).

Read the Baby Bargians book - it will help you figure out what you really need and what is completely over-rated. Example - cribs from Restoration Hardware and Pottery Barn Kids brands are C rated.

I hate the Puj Tub. She's only 14lbs and she doesn't fit in it, water goes everywhere!!! It's great and I loved it when she was a newborn. I also don't like the bumbo seat, she arches her back and if we weren't always watching I'm sure she go crashing out the back. Also this time around I didn't like the pack 'n play or the Boppy Pillow. My 1st I used the PNP so much as well as the Boppy.

I'm going to try and sell all of it.
