Where can I buy a bike helmet for 3 yo that doesn't have characters on it? Prefer to buy in store so we can try it on size sizing is a mystery to me.

Do you have a specialty bike store near you? I was shocked at how reasonably priced their helmets were compared to the character helmets. I was expecting them to be significantly more. We got a Giro for DD. I got neon yellow for safety and visibility.

Do you think your bike shop was comparable to amazon?

@meadow: Yeah, I think it was $5-10 higher, probably closer to $5. I didn't mind because the shop is locally owned and also they have great service.

Yes we went to a bike shop for my daughter’s first one and it was about $5 more than target for personal help and experience and trying on. I had bought one in target and it didn’t fit so I just went there.

Love this brand! Both kids have them and there are pads inside to adjust for fit and remove as they grow. The brand is Nutcase, tons of cool designs. DS is getting this for his 3rd bday tomorrow.

I also got my kids' helmets at my local bike shop--I think trying on is key. My older daughter had one that I bought on the internet and it never fit right.

We have nutcase helmets and LOVE THEM! My oldest has had his for 2 years and wears it for hours a day. Sounds totally silly, but we live in NYC and he is on his scooter or bike ALL DAY. It's still in great shape. Also, one size has fit him for two years!
