I’m kind of a TV snob and usually only like non-network TV like HBO, etc. But, I finally gave This is Us a try and ended up loving it. I binged it within about a week. Now I’m sad it’s over! Please send me your recommendations on what to binge next.

@CatchAFallingStar: if you like This Is Us, have you seen Parenthood? Really good and similar in terms of being a tear jerker. We’ve been rewatching Arrested Development and I’m watching Unbreakable Kimmie Schmidt, both on Netflix.

Parenthood is the best. Even better than this is us.
Big Love is fab too. I don't know anyone else who watched it but it was so good.

@Mrs. Champagne: The best. Ever. And I want to try Big Love even tho I’m late to the party!!

@Mrs. Champagne: i really enjoyed Big Love!
I’m rewatching breaking bad right now, but I want to watch better call Saul next. Just finished The Fall, which was pretty good. Peaky blinders and broadchurch are both on my list to watch.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (Netflix)
Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Amazon)
Mozart in the Jungle (Amazon)
Catastrophe (Amazon)
And Friday Night Lights is a MUST

Parenthood (same writers as this is us) is my all time fave. I started it when my first born was tiny and I’ve watched it the whole way through a second time since. I’m now getting ready for my third round!
The Affair is totally different type of show but a close 2nd for fave.
I started Grace & Frankie on Netflix today and so far I love it.
Otherwise I like pretty dark crime stuff.
The Killing
The Following
Broadchurch
The Fall
Bloodline
Ozark
Not crime per se but good:
Orange is the New Black
Homeland
If you want another network show since that’s what you’re not used to, a good lighthearted fun one is New Girl.

@SweetiePie: For another dark crime show, check out Mindhunter on Netflix. So freaking good.

The Americans
Shameless
Better Call Saul
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

@Mrs. Champagne: I loved Big Love!! I've watched nearly everything on Netflix and Prime, so I'm thinking I'll re-watch this soon!
@SweetiePie: Grace and Frankie is hilarious, but the most recent season sucks.
I don't have any specific recommendations, but don't be afraid to watch something that you think you won't like. It always takes me a few episodes to get into the series.
It much better to watch the network shows online because there are no commercials and when there is a cliff hanger or plot twist there is no waiting for the next week!

A couple of years ago I watched parks and Rec, kind of a different type of show, but it’s so funny and has some wonderful storylines.
persimmon / 1385 posts
I second all of @SweetiePie: suggestions! We tend to be darker stuff as well.
Here are some more:
Narcos
Manhunt
Seven Seconds (just started and are hooked)
American Crime
Oh and we just finished Wild Wild Country which is a docu-series about a cult in OR which was super fascinating.
cherry / 247 posts
Friday Night Lights! Don't read this thread any further, just go watch the first episode!
honeydew / 7463 posts
@BadgerMom: My babysitter just told me about Seven Seconds. Also adding to my list!
Oh yeah and if docu-series are on the table:
- Making a Murderer (though there’s some controversy around this one)
- The Keepers
- Amanda Knox
- The Jinx

This Is Us is so good! I also loved Friday Night Lights. Tammy Taylor is the best.
I'm pretty into the show Love on Netflix right now. Couldn't get into some of the ones recommended above, and don't love things that are too scary. But here are some of shows I've binged on:
Insecure
Westworld
The Handmaids Tale
Orphan Black
Transparent
The Good Place
Parks and Rec
Girls
Nashville (but mostly just the first season or 2)
nectarine / 2951 posts
The Americans
Mozart in the Jungle
Breaking Bad
The marvelous Mrs mazel
Ozark
The Crown
Friday Night Nights is so good!
Catastrophe maker me laugh out loud a lot
The Time Inbetween (it’s in Spanish but there are subtitles if you don’t know the language)

Ditto many of the prior recommendations. I really enjoy USA network shows and have not seen them mentioned:
- playing house - very funny
- royal pains - medical but also funny
- covert affairs - CIA drama
- imposters - is one of their new ones that I have found good so far
- white collar - another drama but lighter
grapefruit / 4361 posts
Blacklist, altered carbon, greys anatomy, the OA. For drama
Parks and rec, the new girl, the office. For comedy
Buffy for throwbacks
apricot / 420 posts
Santa Clarita Diet
Grand Designs - on Netflix, if you like home building, renovation shows
Weekend Aristocrats
The Great British Baking Show

one that hasn't come up yet is the Wire. my all-time favorite show. i could watch it again and again. if you like hbo stuff, i think you'll love it. i recommend watching with subtitles. echo the many recommendations for friday night lights and big love!
also some really oldies but goodies are gilmore girls and veronica mars. bloodline season 1 was excellent, though i'll admit i never got into season 2. i may try that again actually.
right now my binge watching guilty pleasure is suits, which is on amazon prime. it's honestly not the highest quality show (and as a lawyer it is frustratingly ridiculous when it comes to the legal aspects of the show)...but the characters are good looking and i enjoy them!

Omg how has no one suggested Suits or Scandal yet!!! So good! I also loved TWD and FTWD, Life in Pieces, Last Man on Earth, Nashville and Ozark. I’m just about ready to start a new show so following this thread closely

Loving all the recommendations!! So many that I’ve seen and love and so many that sound great! Thank you all.

Love most cw shows: vampire diaries (done), originals (done?), flash, reign (done), riverside, crazy ex-girlfriend, Jane the virgin, arrow, supergirl, valor, the legends, etc.
Loved parenthood (done), still watching once upon a time, scandal, better call Saul...
K, i watch too much... should be sleeping lol.
clementine / 935 posts
Jane the Virgin and Las chicas del cable (Cable Girls) @Alba4: if you liked El tiempo entre costuras, you've got to watch Las chicas del cable! It's on Netflix.
honeydew / 7463 posts
@CatchAFallingStar: another network show since you said you don’t normally watch them - The Good Wife! I binged that like crazy.
Also, Lost was amazing. That was my first binge ever! It was before Netflix or any of that was very big so I actually bought all of the seasons on iTunes.
apricot / 483 posts
@Happygal: YES! Nurse Jackie was awesome. Edie Falco is an incredible actress.
grapefruit / 4492 posts
Man in the High Castle (Amazon)
I feel bad recommending it because they only have 2 seasons out and the 3rd is taking forever to release, but it is so good.
It is about if the Nazis won WWII, and they took over the US. It is sad, messed up, thought provoking craziness.
Also love West World, Big Love, Outlander, Game of Thrones, Call the Midwife
cherry / 150 posts
For show binges, I recommend Mindhunter, Narcos, The Good Wife, The Good Fight, and Dear White People.
@nwm: The Wire is the best. I have to admit, i had to force myself to get through the first 3 shows as everyone swore it picked up the pace. The show is like a novel, which makes it so great. I also only watch Suits for the good looking actors and the (goddamn) outfits.
apricot / 301 posts
Loved so many that have already been rec'd! Narcos, The Wire, The Crown, West Wing, The OA, Mindhunter, The Handmaid's Tale, VEEP...
Has anyone mentioned Atlanta yet? We love it! Also, Ugly Delicious (Netflix) is a fantastic show.
clementine / 995 posts
Here are my favorites:
Game of Thrones
Westworld
Downton Abbey
Call the Midwife
Poldark
Victoria
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Mindhunter
Godless
Ozark
The Crown
I tend to like period dramas the most, but I also like a bit of fantasy and sci-fi. My least favorite genres are usually crime and courtroom dramas. Mindhunter and Ozark are crime dramas that I actually like. They are really well done.
