If you made birth announcements, did you send them to a lot of people or only to a smaller group...like the people you invited to your baby shower?

Only family and close friends got birth announcements!

I don't have kids (yet), but I would send them to close friends and family only.

I sent them to 100 people. So lots! I sent them to all of my family and friends, and then also to anyone who gave LO a gift (like my grandma's friends) because I figured they were interested in LO enough to buy her something, they deserved to see what she looks like.

@tequiero21: I know. My grandma would call me every day reminding me to send them to another friend that I've never met or a distant family member. But we got the 100 pack of post cards from vistaprint for free so it was no biggie.

@tequiero21: They always have all sorts of deals. You just have to pay for shipping.

@artbee: My mom had me order a lot more announcements because she wanted to send them to her friends(some I don't know) and show off her first grandchild! But now she is concerned about whether it will seem like she is fishing for gifts for my LO.

I think we sent out about 150. We had to place a second order because we ran out of the first thinking we didn't have anyone we wanted to send it to. Then I saved about 20 for archiving, babybooks, etc.

@autumnlove: I thought about that too. But for me most people had already given gifts so I assumed they knew not to send another one. Personally I don't always send a gift if I get a birth announcement. If I wanted to give a gift I would have done so already, but if we're not super close I just appreciate getting the announcement so I can see the cute baby pictures!

We sent them to family and anyone who had already given us a gift (which included all of our close friends). I was worried about appearing to be fishing for gifts as well. My mom did send a couple to friends of hers I don't know, but she sent a note with the announcement saying she just wanted to show off her grandbaby, blah blah blah. We figured everyone else would get to see LO on Facebook.

Only to close friends and family so it was not a lot. I wasn't even going to send any but my friend custom designed one without me even asking so I decided to send them.

I never thought that birth announcements were fishing for gifts at all! I really like the tradition of them and as much as I love social media, I kind of hate that Facebook has stolen the thunder a little bit! When we have a LO, I think we'll probably send birth announcements to the majority of our "Christmas card list," which we have never really used for Christmas cards but is basically an evolved version of our wedding guest list. That's 200+ people!
