Did you get a temp birth record when you were discharged from the hospital?
How long did it take you to recieve your LO's social security # and birth certificate?

Yes! We received her social security card when she was about 3 weeks old from what I remember. I didn't file her paperwork for her birth certificate until she was 3 weeks old, and we received her birth certificate in the mail about a week later.

It took a few weeks to get the documents. There was an error on her birth certificate so we had to call them and get a new one, though. I can't remember how long that took.

SS took about 2 weeks. I didn't send in docs for her birth certificate until a month or so after her birth, so that took a bit longer.

It took about 3 weeks to receive her SSN in the mail. Her birth certificate was ready in about 5 days (and I have yet to get a copy-5 weeks later!)

his SS card only took a couple weeks, but you have to order the birth certificate and I haven't sent in the order form yet.

SSN/card was really quickly, I have yet to go get a copy of the birth certificate.

eek--hopefully REALLY fast because we're going to Canada, and need a passport for him when he's pretty young (between 6 and 9 weeks old).

We'll get an amended birth certificate at 6 months and then ss# later.

A lady came to us in the hospital to go over the paperwork, then my husband paid and filed the papers online at 2 weeks, by 4 weeks we had all of his important papers sent to us in the mail.

@LAGS: land, so we can get in no problem, but w can't get home without a passport.

We received LO's SS card in the mail a week after she was born. We picked up her birth certificate from the county registrar's office about 2 months after..

Ours came in at about 3 weeks times. But we filed the paperwork quickly.

@pastemoo: As far as I know, for land/sea travel your LO's birth certificate is enough. Air and international travel (other than Canada) is another story though. http://www.getyouhome.gov/html/lang_eng/eng_sa.html

They sent me a temp a few days later. It took maybe a month to get her card. And I was able to pick up her birth certificate at about the same time I got her as card in the mail.

I filled out the paperwork at the hospital and gave it to the nurses. LO is 9 days old so I wonder if I should call and make sure it was filed. I honestly don't remember if I checked the SS # box...

Just got her SS card a few days ago do almost 3 weeks. Hopefully her birth certificate comes soon. We're waiting on that so we can go visit my aunt in Toronto.

I had to physically pick-up a copy of her birth certificate from the county office and they won't release them until 6 weeks from date of birth (although hospital filed the paperwork within 1 week). I don't remember how long it took for the social security number/card.
