so we just moved to a new city (where i grew up) and we don't know anyone other than my parents and my high school best friend. my son is in a day care that he loves and he's been there about 5 months. He's turning 3 in november and we're planning his party.. so my question is - is it weird to invite everyone from his class to attend the party? we're planning a party at a sports complex that does a 30 minute soccer session with a bounce house afterwards. followed with cake and pizza. (the cost is surprisingly cheap!). i don't think it's weird, but i feel weird about it because a bunch of kids in his class have had birthdays and haven't done anything. i really have no idea... i just thought he would love having his friends around and it would be a good chance for my husband and i to meet other parents. thoughts?

We are having my son's first friends party this year and I'm planning on inviting everyone from his class. I know not everyone will show up, but I don't want people feeling left out. His class is only 12 kids though.

@megjay18: I don't think it's weird! One of my son's classmates had a birthday party at Chuck E Cheese a month or two ago and most of the kids invited were his classmates. We ended up just taking him to a water park for his bday, so no real party, but if we had we would have invited his classmates. They aren't just classmates, they are his friends, too. He talks about them at home!

Is your daycare fairly large? By 3 I think bday party invitations are very common and inviting the entire class would be sweet! Granted, they may not all come and you may have to be active in getting RSVPs, but if I had the means, I would

the daycare itself is large, but his class is like 15 kids. the sports place allows for up to 25 kids so i don't think it matters how many under that number come (as far as RSVPs go), so tracking them hopefully shouldn't be a big deal.
i'm leaning towards just doing it...even if it's not common at his school. he'd be happy if even like 3 friends came and won't know/understand that like 12 didn't come.

Definitely not weird! 3 was the age when we started getting invites to daycare kids' parties, and it has been fun to get to know some of the parents better. Do it!
Also not all the kids had parties that they invited everyone to--more like 1/3-1/2 so you doing it isn't totally out there.

When I worked at a daycare kids were invited to each other's birthdays all of time, and the parents didn't really know each other. -
I think it would be a great idea! Speaking for myself, we don't have a lot of friends in our town with kids our son's age, so we'd be pretty happy for a birthday invite, and a chance to meet some parent friends.

Do it! The kids who will come will be the kids you will probably see at every birthday party from now until he goes to Kindergarten. It will be a great way to meet the other parents, too. The kids will love seeing their friends outside of school!

Not weird. I think it would be great. Our preschool has a policy that if you want to distribute invitations for parties at school you have to have an invitation for every child in the class!

all of these responses make me feel not-weird! i didn't think it would be weird, but since no one else in the school had sent invites i thought maybe it wasn't standard practice. oh well - the party is now booked and we'll see what happens.
