Gah. The family politics involved in planning LO's first birthday (brunch) is getting to me. I'm tempted to kibosh the condo party room party and just do our parents for dinner. I'm also considering doing a "sweets" party drop in. Open door for a few hours and invite people to come whenever they choose to drop in. Thoughts? How would you word it on an invitation? 'Sweet table celebration' doesn't sound right. My niece had a "sweets and treats" party for her 13th.

I'd just call it an open house.

My suggestion is do whatever it is that you and your husband want to do, and let everyone else deal. Parenting in a long journey, and it's best to set a precedent that you and your husband get to make the calls when it comes to your kid. If someone wants to get butthurt over a 1 year old's birthday party, that's their issue.

I love the idea of an open house for large groups. Spreads the crowd out and pleases everyone because they pick agent hey show up

You can word the party as Sips & Sweets and list "drop by" hours.
