My LO got his top two teeth a little over a month ago and now that they are in all the way, he's all of the sudden biting my shoulder or arm constantly. Basically every time I hold him he bites. I've tried saying "No!" forcefully, tried saying "Please don't hurt Mommy," but he just laughs. Besides wanting it to stop for my own pain, I'm nervous he will bite another baby at day care. Any tips for reasoning with a 10 month old?!?

@SeptMomma12: one trick to try when they bite you is to immediately put them down and walk away. That way they don't get a reaction that might encourage them to do it again!

They want to put everything in their mouth at that age. Have some baby teething toys on hand so he has something to bite and he starts getting an idea what's OK/not OK and just replace your shoulder with a toy when he does it.

I'm not looking forward to this... LO is 9 1/2 months, no teeth yet, but constantly "bites" me on the shoulder, cheek, chin. Its a game to her and we've let it go so far. When she's going after something we don't want her to touch we say "no touch" very firmly and she will crawl away from it. I'm not sure if "no bite" will work in that case, but I think we will try it if biting becomes an issue. Good luck!!

Could it also be that he is getting more teeth? My son bits more often when I think his gums are bothering him. Could you give him teething relief items and see if the biting decreases? Lately if he's biting down on something appropriate - like a pacifier or toy - I just give him positive feedback; "Oh yes, biting your lovey is so good! It feels great to bite your lovey."

@JoyfulKiwi: I was actually just thinking about that. He's been sick the last week, so I've just been attributing the bad sleep to that, but it could definitely be teething as well. He was trying to chew the table at lunch today instead of eating his food.
