I didn't know how else to title this ?? Our neighbor across the street passed away on Saturday. Since then they have had a black cloth hanging from their mailbox. Can someone explain this ???

I know they typically cover mirrors, maybe the mailbox was reflective..? Or perhaps this is the whole "no greetings are exchanged" thing...

In Mexico, people sometimes tie a black bow on the door or entrance when someone dies.

I've never heard of Jews doing this, so my guess is that it's something else. But yes, covering mirrors is something Jews do...
