We need to find a blackout solution that is more like blinds or roller shades, that fits inside of the window frame. We have curtains on the outside now, and I want something that's really easy to open/close when naptime is over. Do you have any you love? We're renting, so I'd like to spend less than $25 per window. And, I want them to be pretty light-proof - the room is on the west side of the house, and gets a ton of afternoon/evening light. Links appreciated.

Keep in mind that even with rollers there is still light leak. So we do blackout curtains on top. All the blackout shades.
Budget blinds was really affordable I wonder if your landlord would be willing to offset the cost?

We ordered online from Home Depot and are very happy however they do have to get screwed into the wall

@youboots: In A's room, we have blinds + black curtains + blackout curtains. NO LIGHT, lol ... but we never open them. We just use light. Since M shares a room with us, we want an easy option for opening - I light natural light in there during the day, since I have plants.

@gotkimchi: Are they rollers? And specifically marketed as blackout? Screwing into the wall/frame is totally okay.

We have these in both LOs rooms. So easy to open and close, no cord for safety and block a good amount of light.
ETA - sorry I just saw your < 25 request. These are a bit more than that but Overstock has coupons all the time so maybe you could get it down a bit.

We just have blackout curtains, but my mom gets migraines and uses the Home Depot roller ones. We got some paper blackout accordion shades off Amazon that were cheap and work well. However, the only way to put them up is to manually fold and clip them. IKEA has roller blinds, but our windows aren't any of the standard sizes and it seemed like too much trouble to hack them.

@littlejoy: they pull-up from the bottom, very easy to use.
You just order in whatever size you need.
And here is a pic of them in a our room, they do have a tiny amount of light at the side but both my kids have only these in their rooms and sleep just fine

We bought them for my daughters room back in 2016 and the first blind we put up still works great! Cheap and you can cut them down to size.

@littlejoy: how big are the windows? We had really big windows in my last place and none of the cheaper options came big enough. We would have had to go up to the premium, more expensive, option, to get the length we needed
We have the paper blackout blinds and they really do work amazingly well but they aren’t convenient to open and close every day. We are on the hunt for good not too expensive black out blinds now too.

So, we have tiny windows and what I noticed is that for maximum light blockage, I needed a shade that was bigger than the window and then the curtains on the sides blocked the light that seeped in through the sides.
I used the Country Curtains blackout shades. Not cheap, but you can take them with you when you move and they're super easy to raise and lower.

We got these from JC Penny. Our window frames don't allow for inside mounting so we had to mount outside, but they are fantastic for blackout. We do have to put curtains around them because there is leak. I got them when they were having a 65% off sale so they were super cheap. I wouldn't spend much more since they're paper.

Ikea! You can cut them yourself to size so they fit perfectly and have less light leak around the sides
