How long did yours last and how heavy was it? I had some minor spotting the day of placement on Tuesday, but since then it's ramped up to a flow like a period, with clots and everything. It isn't terrible heavy though. My PP bleeding has been mostly stopped for a few weeks now other than a little brown spotting every once in a while. Could it just be a coincidence that AF came back right after I got the Mirena? I'm 8 weeks PP.

I bled for 6 weeks after placement
it was terrible and I almost had it removed because I thought it would never stop. It finally stopped and I did t have a period for 10 more months!

@yellowbird: Wow that sucks! I wish my OB would have told me about this. The medical assistant said I might have some spotting but nothing like this.

I had one before LO and loved it. I had another put in at around 12 weeks PP and had several weeks of bleeding. It was annoying but my OB said that was normal.

Mine was put in at 8 weeks pp as well. I bled off and on, mostly on, but really lightly for 2 months. Haven't noticed a period since then, but he's only 5.5 months and EBF.

I had a least a week of light bleeding, maybe more more of period at first. But after it stopped I haven't had a period yet! All pretty normal.

I bled for about 6 wk after placement (not heavy though, mostly spotting), and then spotted off and for 6wks after like 7 months (unexplained). Then not much in almost two years? Sometimes random spotting every few months, but very light and lasts a few hours.

I had a copper iud placed at 8 weeks PP and bled heavily for a week after.

I believe it's pretty common to bleed as your body adjusts, that's what my doctor told me about both the Mirena and the copper rod.
Also, some people (10%) will have constant bleeding/spotting, I would say if it continues for another few weeks call and see what they recommend!

I had a mirena and bled for 5 months straight. When I took it out, the bleeding stopped after a few days. Hope you have a better experience!

I had pretty bad bleeding for like 10 days then it tapered off to a medium/heavy spotting for TWO FUCKING MONTHS. Sorry can we even say that on this board? People never swear. But like... SERIOUSLY? I was so angry. It got gradually lighter and I stopped spotting entirely at 3 mo but for the last 2.5 mo I've been spotting sort of a lot on and off (at least I seem to have a week or two off though...?) I am honestly really annoyed about it. I am giving it like another month and maybe getting it removed if this keeps up. But I'm sort of hesitant to do that because it IS improving....
(FWIW I did ask and I"m within the range of "normal" even if I'm having a bit more bleeding than most... bah). -
2.5 weeks of heavy bleeding, and I was convinced it was my first PP period but we'll see moving forward. Hope your bleeding is brief!

@Mae: I was that pissed too because I didn't even get my pp period back until 16 months postpartum!! You bet I wanted those 5 months of my life back!
