My darling daughter killed our PS3 for the second time. We already paid once to fix and am not looking to do that again.
We mainly use it to watch Blu Ray and Netflix. But I'd imagine blu ray players are a lot more affordable now. Does anyone have one to recommend? Do you know of any that includes an app / widget for watching Netflix?
Does anyone have a cable they like to connect their Mac book to their TV? That's another option for watching Netflix.
Any other suggestions?

Have you thought about a roku? We have one, along with a ps3. We can watch Netflix, vudu, and more. It's only around $50.

We have a sony media player but aren't in love with it & are getting a roku soon. My dad loves his Apple TV. He also has a cord we got him to connect his iPad to the tv. I'll hve to ask the mister which one we bought him.
We don't watch bluray, so I don't have any suggestions there

@locavore_mama: you could get an Apple TV for $99... it has Netflix, HBO Go (if you have HBO), iTunes, etc and you can airplay things (DVDs, youtube, Amazon instant video) from your Macbook or iphone.

If you are able, build a simple, cheap small PC for watching Netflix and bluray movies.

We use apple TV to connect to Netflix, etc. I believe our TV is also a smart TV which can do that as well, but we don't use that interface much. Blu ray players are pretty cheap these days. I got a cheap one 4 years ago for Christmas that is still going strong. At the time it was around 80 bucks so I'd imagine that they are priced even better by now.

Vudu is a free app and you can transfer all your blu rays to digital through Walmart. We've done that with most of our blu rays and have gotten rid of our DVDs and blu rays.

@Jennimac: we just bought roku for our master bedroom to use it for Amazon prime tv shows and movies. Roku is sich a great invention!

Does your computer have HDMI out? An HP laptop we have does this, but not sure about apple products. Otherwise, I am sure they make smart bluray players like they make smart TVs. They would be wifi enabled.

@bpcmarj: I think many Apple laptops have a mini HDMI out (They sometimes call it Thunderbolt), which is essentially the same thing. A HDMI to mini HDMI cord should work to connect a Mac to a tv.

We have a Panosonic Bluray player that has WiFi to watch Netflix. It has built in Netflix, Amazon, Youtube, etc apps.

Blu Ray Players are so cheap now and most of them come with tons of apps for Netflix, Amazon etc. I have a couple of Panasonics I really like. I have a Roku too and would recommend Blu Ray player over Roku because that way you can watch Blu Rays in addition to stream for the same cost.

We have used an HDMI cable (plus an adapter) for the past 3 years to connect our MacBook to the TV. It's great. BUT, we just got an Apple TV last week ... it connects to the TV with an HDMI cable as well, and is loaded with all of the apps we love (Netflix, Hulu, HBO go, etc.). Both are great.

We love our roku! We also have a chrome cast that we use for our upstairs TV. But I like having a remote.

I connected my old macbook to our tv. I think it cost $19 for the apple part and then $5 from the local electronic store to get the sound to come out of our tv.
Although, that's just for hulu. For netflix, we use it through our Wii.
Although, there's suppose to be a new PS4 coming out soon. So you might be able to find a PS3 really cheap soon.

I don't really see the point of Apple TV or Roku or suggestions like that if you only want Blu-rays and Netflix - you can get a Blu-ray player that streams Netflix for around $80. I recommend either Sony, LG, or Panasonic. Samsung is okay too...their Blu-ray players had a lot of problems when they first came out but have made a lot of improvements since. Just make sure you get something with wi-fi built in.

My DD stuck a coin (or toy?) in our PS3 for the second (?) time this year, recently!! SO wants a PS4 too, but we'll probably wait on it.
But we have smart TVs so can use Netflix through there. Our Blu-Ray player has Netflix too... It's a Sony and we got it on Black Friday two years ago for less than $100... If I recall correctly, I think it was around $70-80!
