We plan on starting this tradition with our girls this year. I read that a lot of people do holiday themed books, but I'm curious if anyone has done a mix of everyday books as well as holiday? Do you use the same books year after year or buy new ones? We plan on buying them at the thrift store but wasn't sure if we should do all Christmas themed or not.

We started this last year with LO. I did all holiday/Christmas themed books, as I am keeping them from year to year and rewrapping for this year (with some updates as she ages). I got almost all of them on Better World Books for a steal!

@Chaosmaven: we have a nice children's consignment store here that has books for .50! Some new, great condition, popular ones. I'm so excited to see what I can find.

@Bao: ooh that sounds amazing! Ours are mainly clothes here, haven't had too much luck with books.
@Mrs. Chocolate: I hide ours away with the Christmas decorations. That way they are still special the next year, and I don't feel overrun with Christmas books!

@Mrs. Chocolate: that's kind of what I was thinking, we have about 10-15 Christmas themed books already. I may add a few of those into the mix, and then buy a few other books.

I'm going to do this, but not this year as we're traveling. I'll do a mix of Christmas books, ones that explore Hannukah and Kwanzaa, as well as New years and generic winter books. Lot's of Snow and Lost mittens!
As she grows bored of books, I'll add them to my classroom collection.

I will do all holiday themes, but maybe incorporate books about different holidays in other cultures rather than just Christmas.

I'm actually writing a blog post about this in the next week or so! I bought all Christmas/winter books. I want the advent to celebrate the Christmas season! I bought some through Scholastic, some at bargain stores, and a bunch on thriftbooks.com. I think I spent around $50 for 25 books. If you already have some, you can spend even less. I wasn't sure I was going to do advent since this isn't something I grew up with, but now I think it'll be such a great tradition to do with my kids as they grow.
