Did anyone in the Boston area take a CPR class AFTER their baby was born? If so, where? Having trouble finding one that isn't part of a prenatal class. I saw one at the Red Cross but it looked like a 50 hour certification course? Thank you!

I'm not in Boston, but I just took the "Infant CPR Family and Friends" class through the Red Cross (last night actually). The class is video based and is the same all around the county. Is is the most basic of the CPR classes provided by the Red Cross. For me, it was $20 and 1 hour. There was a nanny and a grandparent in the class (the rest were expecting parents). It was a standalone class.
I would call the Red Cross closest to you and see if/when they offer this specific class.

@TemperanceBrennan: Thank you! I'm trying to find a class taught by a certified nurse as I panic every-time I put food in front of my baby - I watch videos online, but I think I need a real person to show me what to do so I have confidence that I can save a choking baby. Terrifying!

We took the Infant CPR at Emerson Hospital in Concord. It might be listed as prenatal, but you could definitely take it at any time.

@jlm22: Ours was taught by a nurse - 20 years experience with 10 years as a labor and delivery nurse! She showed a section of the video. Then we talked about it, then we practiced with a dummy while being instructed, then we asked questions, then we did it by ourselves (without instruction) while she watched. It covered infant CPR and choking - it was very hands on.

@TemperanceBrennan: oh! I read it as it was just a video. Good to know, will definitely call them. Thank you!

@jlm22: let me know if you find a convenient one. I never took one and I really feel like I should.

I'm pretty sure you can take any offered by hospitals at any point. Ours was at NWH and there were grandparents in it.

@jlm22: well it doesn't get much more convenient than that! Interested to hear what they say. If I had known they were right there a month ago I very well may have gotten a night nurse for a night!

@JoJoGirl: @jlm22: We did ours at Newton Wellesley, but it was 3 hours long and combined with general child safety (car seat best practices, CPR, choking/Heimlich, baby-proofing, poison control, etc.) It was also $40 (per person!)

@jlm22: they just had a free clinic at Cambridgeside Galleria a few weekends ago
I know that some Babies R Us offer them, too?
Red Cross in Cambridge, too. $90 for certification.

I've been meaning to take one as well, since my plans went out the window when LO came 6 weeks early. Harvard Vanguard does them separately from child care classes:
