Does such a thing exist? DS (3.5) needs closed-toe sandals for day care and no crocs allowed. The last two summers we've had the Stride Rite sneaker-like sandals and have had to throw them out after only a few weeks. No amount of washing would even touch the stink 
Has anyone had any luck with a different brand?

Are natives also not allowed? I would think anythin gwith a fabric-y interior will hold sweat and stinkiness. You can wash keens in the washing machine, maybe that would work?

I would do Keens since they can be washed. We've never had a problem with them being stinky.

I don't have any recommendations but I just wanted to say I wouldn't recommend Keens. I want to love them and we had them two summers in a row for DS, but I just can't handle the stink. Yes, you can machine wash them, but I feel like you have to wash them at least weekly, which is too much maintenance for me.

@lamariniere: Yeah, we were washing the Stride Rites 2x a week at one point, and they still stunk.
@hilsy85: I've never tried natives. Are they more secure on the foot than crocs?

@SeptMomma12: yes they are a real shoe shape (enclosed all around) just made out of a similar croc material.

@SeptMomma12: actually, if Natives are ok, I would recommend those! We had a pair last year and they didn't stink at all, so I bought new ones for this year. They are indeed Croc-like, but the style isn't nearly as ugly IMO.

@SeptMomma12: oh great! yeah, it is a really good price. I noticed in the comments others talking about the old "hybrid" sandals they had - which were like Keen ripoffs for half the price but really good quality - which I am also bummed they don't have again, but I'll buy these to try 'em out!

It's been too cold to try out yet though. They're pretty much just rubbery material with some neoprene and (faux?) leather.

Are you using socks? I have found that with my son, I can't put him in any kind of shoe unless it's one that can accommodate socks. Otherwise, he just has insanely sweaty feet.

FWIW we have had luck spraying shoes with diluted vinegar every other day or so. Just a quick spritz before bedtime and they're dry by morning.

I asked the man at our local kids' shoe store why they didn't have Keens and he said they got too many complaints about stinky feet. He said the Merrells didn't smell (had an antimicrobial footbed or something), but of course he was trying to sell us the Merrells so I'd take it with a grain of salt.
