Saturday night my 2 year old fell/jumped off our bed. I ran over and picked him up right away and he was doing that silent cry/breath holding thing – but then finally let some noise out but his head went back and he went silent – so I was worried that he had some sort of back/neck injury so I laid him down on our bed…and then his eyes rolled into the back of his head and he went unconscious for probably not even 5 seconds. He came to, and started crying but calmed down fairly quickly – he was able to move around and was acting fairly normal. I, of course, was not ok (I can’t get the image of him going unconscious out of my mind) so we went to the ER.

The doctor was worried about a head injury (as were we) but after looking him over and hearing our story – he thought that him passing out/going unconscious was probably not due to a head trauma – but more with holding his breath right after the injury – and sent us home to watch for any signs of head trauma. Which we haven’t seen anything and he is 100% himself.

I’ve heard of other kids doing this breath withholding when they get injured/upset and passing out but my son has never done this. That had to be the single most frightening moment of my life. Do any of your children do this?
