Do you tether rear facing? Are you supposed to?

Yes we tether rear facing. It's recommended but not required. There are great videos on YouTube and http://www.car-seat.org/index.php for different models of cars for britax seats.

It's not required but I do believe Britax recommends it (some carseats cannot be tethered when rear facing). The seat of course meets all safety requirements without it... the tether just helps stabilize it in a side impact crash.
ETA: We have P's Combi rearfacing & tethered as well (the manual recommends it)

I'm in New Zealand and am legally required to have my rear facing seat tethered (it's a Britax)

We use the LATCH. Are you still supposed to tether if you use latch? I just switched DS yesterday to his britax...the directions were kind of confusing.

We just use LATCH. The tether is so confusing! I have DD in the middle seat so it would be such a pain to get her in with the tether. I thought it wasn't necessary. Ugh

@luckypenny: I wonder if you are talking about the Australian style tethering? If you do the Swedish style, the tether attaches behind the seat to a secure part of the car (like a tether anchor or a bolted down piece of the car). the tether really doesn't get in the way of putting the baby in the seat at all. http://thecarseatlady.wordpress.com/videos/latch/rearfacingtether/

@T-Mom: yeah! More like Australian except we just have one and it would tether over the middle behind the head rest of the backseat. We don't have the other options in my car

I'm in Australia and we also are legally required to have our rear facing car seats tethered. It's a bit of a pain getting a one year old in and out of it (although the law says they only need to be rear facing until 6 months) but we don't use the LATCH system in Australia so tethering it is.

We have a Britax Blvd that is rear facing, installed with latch and tethered. I know it's required for a front facing seat, but since we could easily attach the tether to a secure spot while rearfacing, we went for it.
That is really interesting on the different tether options. We had a Swedish Britax while living in Europe and the tether on that seat went around the front seat, kind of like lasso style. I had no idea about the Australian option.

We have the Marthon and tether+latch in my Tahoe. I had to remove a piece of plastic from my front seat to do it, but it seems far safer, so I did it.
It's actually one of the reasons I don't want to remove the seat for other people to use when driving my son around. It takes so long to install correctly.
