In my quest to lose weight our family is now eating brown rice, plain brown rice. My attempts to make a good pot of brown rice have all failed. Please share your favorite brand and stove top cooking techniques.

Just a bit of background...
We had been eating Near East rice pilafs. My favorite is the wild rice. When I have made plain white rice I usually substitute chicken stock for water to add flavor. The best tasting brown rice I have had is from Chipotle and that rice is mixed /scented with cilantro.

I bought Rice Select's Texmati long grain basmati brown rice. I have tried following the recipe 1 cup rice, 2.5 cup water, simmer 45 minutes and the rice came out mushy. I have reduced the water and played with the cooking time and once it was still too mushy and the other part was dry and the rice did not change shape (dry to cooked). I even tried using part water, part chicken stock and another time I mixed cilantro from a tube, but both of these attempts have been epic fails.

Thank you for the help!!!
