Anyone buy bunk beds for their LO's first bed ? DH really wants to for our son. I don't mind the idea but would want him to sleep on the bottom bunk for sure !

I couldn't do that for a long time because my LO is a climber. There is no way she could resist climbing up and down to the top bunk. Really cute but I feel like kids need to have self restraint before that.

I have a friend that bought bunk beds already for her 2 and 1 year old. The 2 year old sleeps in the bottom and the 1 year old is still in a crib for now....I'll ask her if she's had problems with him climbing.

We actually just bought a bunk that's very similar to that one today! Our neighbor was selling the entire bed for $250, in perfect condition. Since we need a new bed for him in a few months, I decided to go for it!
Ummm.. I have no idea how it's going to go. We plan to move him into his new "big boy" room this fall when he's about 33 months old. He'll sleep on the bottom bunk and I don't plan to put a mattress of anything fun on the top bunk, in order to discourage climbing, for a while. My LO is a good climber but he's also a cautious kid, so I feel pretty confident that he'll climb up and down the stairs for the novelty of it, but that he won't try to jump off the top of anything. Here's hoping he can handle it!

Yup, got bunk beds for DD when we transitioned her from the crib at 15 months. Big caveat; we got it from Ikea so we had to put it together and we did not install the ladder. So she can't climb to the top bunk.

@Anagram: that would be great ! @QueensBee: good luck ! He is sleeping in his crib now with the rail removed. He doesn't crawl out and puts himself to sleep in his bed. He has always been pretty good about just getting in bed and going to sleep. No monkey business. So, I am not too worried ! 250 is a STEAL !!! That's awesome

I would but DS is super cautious.
We always had bunk beds growing up and when my little sisters moved out of cribs to beds it was the bottom bunk for them.
My dad built a rail in the bottom when my youngest sister was about two so that could be her bed.

I love those kind of bunks, but I am not sure my super cautious 4.5 year old would even be game for the top bunk!

@beloved: ah see our kids are very different. C is all monkey business when it's time to sleep since we moved her to the big bed. She just can't help it!

@beloved: how old? I wouldn't feel comfortable with child under 3 in bunk bed.

@BandDmommy: we plan on buying this as a Christmas gift. He turns 3 in January. And, we would have him sleep on the bottom (for now). I wouldn't plan on even putting a mattress up top yet.

@beloved: That seems fine. My LO is daredevil so I would personally never let him have bunk bed. He jumps no matter the height. We have him in gymnastics due to this.. LOL
