I considered it for when my kids were 4 and 2, but we ultimately decided to do side by side twins. I think something more low to the ground like the IKEA Kura bed would work great for your boys!

Hmm, tough question. My son is almost 4.5 and he is very cautious. However, I don't think I would feel comfortable with a bunk bed for a few more years. Maybe 6? I would actually be more frightened of my younger LO (who is completely fearless) climbing up and falling/jumping off.

I think it depends on the kid. If your oldest isn't afraid of being up top and doesn't normally roll off the bed, go for it! I know my almost 4 yo would be too scared.

Pretty sure my brother was 4 when we had bunk beds and he was on top, so that's my vote! But totally agree with @Mrs. Tiger: that it depends on the kid. I think my oldest at 2 would love it, though I'd be afraid he'd fall out, haha. He's fearless though.

I think would be more afraid of accidents during general horseplay than falling off while sleeping. Especially with sharing a room; kids get crazier with other kids!

But agree it depends on the child. I guess if your child is calm then it's not a concern. Mine is a tomboy! She just got 5 stitches this weekend from jumping in the couch.

I was gonna say 5 but I would definitely take each kid into account!

We are probably putting our boys in bunk beds next summer. My oldest will be 4 and a bit. This is the bunk bed we are considering

We went ahead and bought the bunk beds but kept them separate as twins for a while. Like what @Mrs. High Heels: did side by side. Could you do that for a while and then bunk later?

We just bunked hers now that she's almost 4. She's sleeping on the bottom though. We let her go up to the top (using the ladder) but I worry about her standing and hitting her head on the ceiling fan.

When I was a kid, my cousins were in their room playing in the top bunk of their bunk beds. The younger one somehow fell out, fracturing his skull. He survived, but had to wear a helmet for months. I probably wouldn't do it until age 5-7.
