For those of you who had a c section with your first child, how did you decide whether to get another c section or try for a VBAC with your second child?

I'm definitely hoping for a VBAC the second time around. My recovery from the C section was long (it was 7 weeks before I felt close to 100%) and I just can't imagine a recovery like that with a toddler at home.
I know that a vaginal delivery doesn't guarantee a speedy recovery, but I think, in general, the recovery is quicker with a vaginal.

I had always expected to have a natural birth (I thought these child-bearing hips were finally going to make themselves useful), but ended up with a C-section the first time around after 18 hours of labor. The experience and recovery was really not as bad as I thought at all (I never even took the pain meds I was sent home with), so I'll be having a C-section the next time around too.

I had a c-sec, and Ill be doing that the next time around as well (which wont be for awhile. Liv is only 8 weeks old =o)) My recovery was surprisingly easy. I didnt have much discomfort, only used Advil for pain management, and felt 100% by maybe week 3. I had one little pain on the left side, but it felt like a pulled muscle. Nothing unmanageable. I also didnt labor at all, so maybe its easier to recover when you dont endure labor beforehand?

We aren't having our second baby for a bit still, but I can't wait to read more about what people choose and why. I'm hoping it helps me decide what to do!

While I just had my first 2 weeks ago, I know for sure that VBACs are totally out of the question for me
I have a true case of cephalo-pelvic distortion and nobody's head will fit.

I had a cesarean with DS and this go round am having a VBAC homebirth.
I did alot of research and found that while both VBAC and repeat cesarean pose risks, the repeat cesarean has more.
VBACs in hospitals are not permitted in my area so I have opted for a home-birth.... something that had I known about 1st go round I probably would've done then.
I was find a midwife that is very experienced in VBAC and am looking forward to my home-birth very much!

If we have a LO #2, I want a VBAC. I felt like my c section robbed me of feeling like a "real woman" and the emotional recovery blows. the physical recovery has been fantastic though, and at 3w pp, I'd say I was 90% recovered (abdominal recovery only) in 1 week, and the rest of my recovery has yet to come (still feel 90% recovered).
My poor lady bits are still recovering from the pushing/long labor, and I know it'll be way worse with a complete delivery, but I'd prefer that recovery if it comes with a vaginal delivery.

Hmm... and still only feel 90% better, and may never get to 100% from what I have heard. Definitely going for VBAC if we have another.

I'd definitely like to try for a VBAC the next go around. I went with a midwife and birthin center (located in a hospital) the first time around but DD was posterior and eyebrows out so she couldn't fit. But I still get a bit upset because I didn't try to labor more on all fours when back labor set in, which I read may help reposition her.
@Mrs. Bee - Do you mind me asking what hospital you delivered at? I know you ended up with a VBAC with Olive and in curious since I'm also in NYC. I was at St Luke's the first time.

I'd like to try for a VBAC the 2nd time around but I don't think it's in the cards. I've read that babies delivered via c-section are at a disadvantage the first 6 weeks of life since they don't pick up the healthy bacteria that is transferred from mom to child via the birth canal. Unfortunately, I suffered from a separated pubic bone last pregnancy and a VBAC and too much pushing would likely bring that back worse than the last time.

@littleveesmommy: ny Presbyterian cornell. Everyone wanted me to do a vbac since olive was born early and small!

So here's my dilemma, I never dilated past 8.5cm and was told my LO wouldn't have fit anyway. Would you still try for a vbac or just have a c/s? I'm seriously afraid of getting pregnant before I have some sort of resolution in my mind about this.

@Boogs: Even though I had a long labor last time, if it turns out I need a c-section again, I still want to have tried again for a vaginal birth. To me, that trying means something.
Also (maybe this is wishful thinking?) if I need a second c-section, I won't feel as bad about the first one?
