I hope everyone is safe and sound. We’re in the East Bay but already had plans to go out of town this weekend. I’m glad it helped us escape the smoke. Our town had a parade and several activists scheduled this weekend. Everything was cancelled for smoke. Preschool asked us not to leave DS there on Friday but they didn’t close. I imagine it will be more of the same this week.

My son and I are out of town but DD and DH are on the peninsula south of SF. It’s been pretty bad. School Friday wasn’t cancelled but they stayed indoors for PE and recess. All other activities have been cancelled.

I’m inland and it’s awful. Thankfully I’m far from the actual fire and not in any danger from that, but the AQI last night in my area peaked at 498! My father’s funeral was also today so I’m just an absolute mess. I’m freaking out over my girls breathing in this air. The inside of my house smells like smoke. We had to stay in town for the funeral (and where I am you basically have to go to Nevada to escape the smoke). And my toddler is just coughing intermittently. Ive got horrible cabin fever and I’m just a mess from my father passing. And the smoke is giving me a migraine. Thankfully I don’t have to worry about the fires impacting my home, but having this on top of dealing with my father’s estate and figuring out long and short term care for my mom is really making me reach my breaking point.

@newlypregnantlady: I’m sorry for your loss. I hope your air clears soon. That AQI is so high.

It's not terrible where I am. The Thomas fire last year gave us worse smoke. We had to go through some pretty gross air yesterday though, so I feel for people living in it right now! I'm pretty glued to the news at the moment because although we aren't in the fire area right now, we are in a pretty high risk area for fires. Very dry, lots of wind. If you don't live around these fires it's so hard to imagine. Last year got stuck close enough to a fire (with lo2) that I got water dumped on my car by the helicopters above.. never ever need to experience that again. Really hoping there are no more fatalities and all our firefighters make it back home safe and sound!!
Also, I know they're saying it's untrue, but I can't stop thinking about the air from the Santa susana field lab.

@newlypregnantlady: so sorry for your loss. That is a lot to deal with. I hope this part of it is over soon.

@newlypregnantlady: I’m so sorry for your loss, and having to deal with the fires on top of it.
We’re in SF and the smoke is bad! It smells terrible and I’m afraid to take LO out so we’ve basically been cooped up inside except went to a museum yesterday. But now our nanny is here and she doesn’t drive so they are stuck at home. It really sucks and apparently will be a few more days! I can definitely feel it in my throat. But, we are not in danger from any fires, at least. So sad to hear about the damage and loss of life that is happening.

We are in the south bay and I can definitely smell the smoke in the air. I have asthma so I'm staying in (and keeping the kids in) as much as possible.
I grew up near Chico, I have a lot of acquaintances that still live in the area. My facebook feed was filled with pictures and videos of people fleeing. My heart goes out to everyone up there who lost their home.

@JJ2626: thank you.
Wow that’s got to be so hard to see. They’re interviewing people om our local news at evac shelters and I’m just losing it. I’m trying to figure out ways to get some of my father’s things to evacuees, but it’s hard for me to find local drives. I’m sure some will pop up for us though.

@Corduroy: we are in the east bay too and the smoke is awful here. I’ve just been going crazy not being able to go outside. I have a 3.5 year old and a 7 month old so it’s been rough. And on top of it, I have a stomach bug so I’ve been having to bleach everything and try to open the windows for a bit but it’s just too smoky. I’m going crazy!!

@newlypregnantlady: I'm so sorry you're going through that. My father died right before the Santa Rosa fires last year and we had to move his memorial because the original space we rented was in the evacuated zone. It's so much added stress on top of an already stressful and sad situation.
We're in the SF North Bay and the air is so smoky and gross. I keep my eye on the air quality and it's been constantly in the unhealthy zone for the last few days. We've been inside all weekend and we're so stir crazy.
