I was trying to call in and check on the status of my SDI and couldn't get through on the regular number as it said the call volume was too high and it disconnected me. Google turned up 916-654-0453 as a direct line and I actually got a person! They're passing my info along and I'll be called back within 48 hours.
SAVE THIS NUMBER if you need to call CA Disability for any reason. It bypasses the switchboard.

@mrskc: it's been 4 weeks for me so I was starting to wonder!
I've been waiting on my before-due-date money but I'm wondering what I have to do now that DD is here. Do I have to wait to get the other stuff going and then refill for the 6 weeks after? Then reapply for FML?

@birdofafeather: I didn't start maternity leave until after DS was born, but when they sent my disability stuff, they also sent a form to fill out to send back for paid family leave.

I called them before 10 a.m. and they said they'd call me within 48 hours. I heard from them 30 minutes later! It was the fastest I'd heard from anything gov't related!

Thank you for this info!! I submitted my SDI the day after my DS was born which was about 7 weeks ago and still have not received anything. Was getting worried they didn't receive it but it sounds like they may be backlogged...

OMG I wish I had known this 4 months ago!!!! The main line was soooo sooo sooo annoying. I kept getting disconnected and it drove me nuts. I think I cursed at the phone a few times.

@violetblossom: Did you submit via online or paper? We did paper, and they said the reason mine was delayed was because their machine couldn't read the doctor's portion and they had to manually enter the info.

@MaisyMay: I see, that makes sense...I heard SDI was trying to convert to an electronic system. yes, I submitted by paper since my doctor's office said they are not on board yet with the online submission. Will try to call SDI to check on the status of my claim. Thanks again for passing along the phone number!
