I've never successfully met other parents at the park - but this week I have! Several were people I would have loved to schedule a playdate with... but it feels weird asking them for their info, and the thought of calling feels even more awkward!
Have you ever asked another parent at the park for their info/a playdate?

@Mrs. Pen: One possible way to connect is to take pics of your kids playing together, then offer to send them a copy! Figured that one out accidentally one day...

so after that did you do a creepy stalker phone call and be like heyyyy wanna have a playdate?! lol the thought just seems weird to me, even though I'd love it if the other parent initiated!

Since moving to a new place, I've had to be quite bold to meet other moms, so I've found (and observed) that a "we should exchange numbers and meet up here" next week, etc. I've had a lot of success! usually other moms are dying to connect too.

@Mrs. Pen: I don't usually force it! The best way to build the friendship is usually to keep running into them, I think. So I'll go at that exact same time for a while to see if I bump into them!

I never had this weirdness in England because all the military wives had facebook! lol
Here, though, it's weird. I met this adorable nerdy couple at the renn faire last weekend and their DD was the same age as C and I felt like a creeper being like "Hey, want to hang out with our kids?!"

@Mrs. Pen: Oh also, I feel less weird inviting people to a specific event than to a playdate. If there's a festival or something, I might text them to say that I'll be there and maybe we could meet up if they're there too!

Nope!
But I did exchange numbers with a neighbor this week. Her daughter is like 3 weeks older then R. So we are going to have them over for a play date. Going to be weird to call her for the first time!

@Mrs. Pen: I think you're lingering on the phone call way too much. Toss that idea completely and ask for an email address! Is say something like, "I'll email you if any events for our boys' age comes up at the (X) (for example: the local aquarium). I think after the initial meet-up outside the park, it'll be normal to just text and be like, "were headed to the park tomorrow morning."

@mrbee: I remember you sharing that tip (same time, place) in your blog post awhile ago and am thinking of going back to that other park next week. DH did the same thing - he met a dad with two kids he enjoyed spending time with while they were at the park, and likes to check to see if he came back each week lol
@Tidybee: well, yesterday it was actually a dad. We chatted for over an hour while our two-year-olds played. They were only a week apart! So it felt even more weird wanting to ask if he'd wanna have the kids meet up at the park again - but J just seemed to have so much fun with his little girl!

I told a mom at library that none of my friends have kids so she suggested we hang out and got my number. Im way too shy to ask someone else though.
