... are baby walkers really banned in Canada? I was reading online that you could be fined $100K for owning one! I didn't realize that they are unsafe, but just learned that the AAP also recommends against using them.

They are definitely banned (though the push and pull style kind are fine I do believe). I haven't heard anything about a fine, but I do know that it's illegal to sell one second hand or otherwise.
Dh and I bought our crib and other baby gear in the states last month and when we went through the only thing the border agents asked us is if we bought a walker (we hadn't), because they would confiscate if so.

Yep the. Kind with the wheels on the bottom. To many kids fell down stairs in the past....

My mom was saving one for her future grandkids because she had used it just fine with the four of us. She tossed it years ago when they became illegal to sell in Canada. Too many accidents!

Only the kind with wheels at the bottom (the kind I had as a baby).

Yep, I'm one of the kids who went down the stairs in one in the 80s! My parents had friends over and one of their kids moved the baby gate and didn't put it back properly, and off I went. Luckily I'm none the worse for wear (I don't think... )

@mrsmac: So glad you are okay!
Thanks for the input everyone. It's interesting how different our countries are. Then again, within the U.S. things are different. I live in Maryland, the only state that bans crib bumpers.

They are. I don't think the walkers are unsafe, it is them not being used in a safe manner.
I've never heard of there being a fine for having one though.

@alv91711, @char54: I learned about the $100K fine (or jail time) from this article -

I found that especially interesting considering in Maryland it is only illegal to SELL crib bumpers but OWNING one is fine, whereas in Canada you could get in trouble just for owning a walker.
