I cannot imagine having an orgasm during labor. I did not want anyone even touching me down there.

I see it happening a lot in birth stories featured in Ina May's books, but I don't think it actually happens.

My boss (homebirth midwife) works closely with the woman who wrote and teaches Orgasmic Birth and I've heard a lot of stories from them about "pleasureable" birth experiences but they weren't necessarily sexual orgasms...I remember one woman described it as a pleasant buzzing sensation that rolled over her whole body in waves.

Personally I don't see how it's possible but I don't think these people would be straight up lying?

I somewhat wonder if it's more a euphoria that is orgasmic in feeling but not in nature, if that makes sense? Like I can see how something that physical can bring someone to a high and because it deals with down there it's only comparable to an orgasm even though it really isn't the same thing?

@winniebee: I mean, I felt an immense relief when she came out and I felt like I was on a super high, but no. HAHAHAHAHAHA my vag was like, "What the hell just happened?"

Lol. I love Ina may Gaskin's books, but I do remember one of the women's birth stories saying that she orgasmed during birth. I would never describe my unmedicated birth that way...

@IRunForFun: Yes. Although that article you posted about masturbation during labor was FASCINATING. I don't think I would ever have the guts to try it - but the reasoning behind it makes sense to me. I would dilate super fast if I could get myself loosened up down there hahaha. My second labor was about 2 hours of real pain/labor, so I don't need a lot of help with the fast labors anyways, it would seem, but I can see how helping yourself open up a bit would be beneficial. I just could never be in that mindset. For the women that can, though - more power to em!

LOL this has got to be the most bs crap I've heard in a while. If you're having an orgasm during labor, what the heck were you doing when not pregnant. Imagine that!!!

I feel like hormones can do tricks with your mind and for some people all the pain of birth is completely washed away after the baby is born and they remember it wayyyyyyy more fondly then it actually was at the time. Does that make sense? So no one would actually tell you in the throws of labor that they're having an orgasm but after labor they think they did because they're so high on it all.

I'm thinking it's possible. Never say never. Just like people who didn't think they were pregnant and were. I think things like this is rare. There's 7 billion people on this earth. I can see at least one person having this issue. Maybe it was medicine induced. Maybe it was caused by a health issue. Who knows. I am waiting to hear about this on the Discovery Health channel. I would be curious to know the science behind it.

Nerves go all over the place down there. I could totally see how this could happen. Also, pain and pleasure are not always so far away from each other as both are intense experiences. I bet a lot of it has to do with how you think about the birth experience and frame it for yourself.

I didn't get close to pleasure, but it painful is not exactly the right word either. It was so much work, really the hardest thing I have done and it was A LOT for my body to handle. But I knew that what was happening was right, and ok. And that felt really different then pain, which is not right and not ok.

I can't imagine it but I don't think it's BS. I mean, I can't imagine having any pleasure during S&M either, but plenty of people find pleasure in that pain. To each their own, more power to them!
