Sorry that I don't have any advice, but my parents actually requested no party until 70, and so did my FIL! I guess they don't want to feel old. As for your brothers maybe you can just ask what they are thinking, or ask what you can so to help, maybe that will jog their memories without being overbearing?

I would just ask your brothers, you still have lots of time to plan so hopefully your bringing it up now won't make them feel bad. They'll probably be relieved that someone is thinking ahead! For my dad's 60th we had a surprise dinner with extended family at a Korean restaurant in NYC, and he was so happy! My mom did most of the planning because I didn't have much time to organize it with work but she said it was very manageable and not stressful at all! Aw you're a good daughter!

My parents each got a surprise 60th birthday (and they were both truly surprised!!) Luckily with both parties, the other parent was involved in the planning and funding (so for my dad's party, my mom was involved, and vice versa). That made it SO much easier!

hey - why would your brothers feel insulted? I'd just bring it up like "hey - i just remembered, next year is mom's 60th - we should start talking about her party!"
my mom's 60th is next july and my sister and i were planning to throw her a huge party too - BUT my mom asked that we send her on a nice vacation instead....

@regberadaisy - oh ok... gotcha. my uncle is that figure in our family and everyone tip toes around him! hrm... must be tactful then. can you just mention it in passing - nothing about a party - but just that her 60th is coming up and gauge how he reacts or what he suggests?
