Following. We are going to go with my son in a few weeks he will be 16 mos. they have little toddler sleeping bags but I think LO will sleep in my mils RV in his bjorn travel crib. I'm mainly concerned with what to do with poopy diapers and how to keep him well fed.

We took LO camping when he was 10 months old and he actually did really well!! At night he slept in our tent in a pack and play. Luckily my MIL took her camper so for daytime naps he was able to nap in there. If we hadnt had the option his naps probably would have had to happen in the stroller or the backpack carrier while we walked or something. There was too much going on/it was too bright for him to nap in our tent during the day.
During the day we also moved the PNP out by our campfire so we could keep him contained with toys if we needed to.

We just took DS camping at 16 months. Sleep was kind of an issue for us. We had a tent trailer but he would only go to sleep when it was dark (around 8 or 9pm) and was up when the sun was up. We did a lot of naps in the stroller as well. Normally at home he sleeps 12 hours at night with a 1.5-2 hour nap.
The first night I slept in a bed with him and it was a disaster. The next night I figured out his packnplay fit perfectly between the couches so he slept in there. We did bring his white noise and his turtle that projects light onto the walls and ceilings, that helped a lot.
Other than that DS had a great time! We brought some toys but he ended up playing with sticks in the dirt most of the time

Following. We've been talking about when to take E camping. We're a little bit concerned about the sleeping thing...he doesn't sleep well when we travel (with the PnP) and he won't co-sleep with us anymore. Basically he only sleeps well when he's in his own crib...but I really don't want to wait until he's older to go...

We took LO camping in Yellowstone at 8 months and Yosemite at 12 months. We were avid campers pre-baby, and it's just as much fun with LO, but it does take more work and planning. My best tip is to try not worry about LO's sleep. All of my daughter's naps took place in our hiking backpack carrier, and she went to bed for the night several hours later than her normal bedtime. She got less sleep than she does at home, but she was in good spirits, so I decided not to care. Having a tent that can accommodate a travel crib/pack n play is really helpful IMO - that way you can put him to bed before you go to sleep.
How many days are you going for? What are your sleeping arrangements like? What are you doing during the day - short hikes, long hikes, hanging around your campsite?

We've been camping a few times with LO.... 3 months in a cabin, 15 months and 20 months in a tent. We're going to go in October again, she will be 2.
My LO is also a light sleeper and we always try our hardest to have her in her own room if possible- we always book a suite when going to hotels. But obviously you can't do that in a tent. Luckily she was always so worn out that she just fell right asleep and slept pretty well. We always just put her in the pack n play in the tent. She went through a phase where she hated her pack n play and would scream her head off, but camping she is just so exhausted that she passes out. The one issue we have is she's used to blackout curtains and you don't have that in a tent so she would wake up earlier then normal.... but that wasn't a huge deal. It gets hot here during the day, even though we go in the cooler months, so we always bring a fan for nap time.

Hi all, thanks for the tips! We will be camping at a campground beside a lake in northeast GA/western NC (blue ridge mtns.). So no backpacking or anything wacky! Will be sleeping in a tent. I am worried about scribble's daytime naps, but thinking maybe I can make the tent darker by putting blankets over it? This is assuming it is not too hot.
Temp at night between 55 and 65. Does that seem too chilly? If it dips in the fifties? I wouldn't mind co sleeping but scribble hates it....

@Mrs. Sketchbook: We've been camping in colder weather and we just layered LO..... a lot. She won't cosleep either and I didn't want to do blankets yet so I had her in long sleeves, leggings, thicker pj pants and a thick pj shirt, sleep sack, socks and slippers, and hat. I didn't want to do mittens because she's a thumb sucker and that helps her sleep. I was miserably cold all night but she was perfectly fine and slept through it

@artbee: these are some great tips!! Thank you! Sleep is my main worry because he also prefers it dark and he is distracted by our presence while sleeping....

@artbee: @owlmom: @KT326: @Running Elley: What did you guys use for white noise while camping? My son is an addict.

@Mrs. Sketchbook: Yes, our LO's sound similar. But like I said, she got soooooo tired from running around like a maniac that she just passed out. She didn't nap as long as usual, but it was better then nothing. We brought an audio monitor so we didn't have to actually be in the tent when she fell asleep, and this way we got some chill time by the camp fire at night.
@winniebee: If it's warm out we have a fan. If it's cooler we use an app on DH's phone.

@winniebee: Usually we disney camp so we have electricity at our campsite. We bring extension cords

@winniebee: We used a white noise track on our iphone (a track called "Deep Sleep Therapy" on "White Noise for Infants" by Deeper State available on itunes).

Anyone have tips for camping with a toddler thats not walking yet? I guess LO just going to crawl around in the dirt the whole time...??
@Mrs. Sketchbook: So how did camping go for you last summer? I am gearing up for camping with a 14 month old soon! Any tips to share? I have battery powered white noise machine & fan. Was thinking of bringing a tarp to help make the tent darker for naps...
@lovehoneybee: Did you end up doing some camping with your LO, looking for tips!
