I am looking into some type of bath seat for my 3 month old. We never purchased an infant bathtub since I knew it wouldn't get used for very long. the first month, he bathed with me. And now I take him into the shower with me.
But I'd like to get a solid bedtime routine going that involves a bath, so i need something to hold him up.
Can a bumbo be used? I have one of those.

I dont have a bumbo but just based on the injuries reported by people who used it wrongly I wouldnt use it in a bath tub

I remember reading somewhere that you aren't supposed to but I don't remember why. I know it would suction to the tub and that might be a problem. There are also a lot of accidents reported from kids kicking themselves backwards.
We bought a bath seat that has suction cups on the bottom but it doesn't stick because our tub is textured. That's just something to check on if you decided to go that way.
Our bedtime routine always included a bath. DH used to get in the bath with our LO and it was no big deal. Now that he can sit up alone, he gets a bath by himself.

I haven’t read anything specifically about it but I’ve heard of lots of injuries, usually when the bumbo wasn’t used the way that it’s supposed to be used (was on the counter and baby had a fall, etc.).

@Coco Bee: Yes there have been lots of injuries reported some were because parents were putting the bumbo on elevated surfaces like a table top and the baby fell out and unto the floor, on the bumbo website it has lots of warnings to only use it as described

I wouldn't use a bumbo in the bath.. We put a towel down and made a little towel pillow for Lo and had her lie in the bathtub until she was about 4-5 months old. Then we started bathing with her.

My crazy stupid SIL used it in the tub. I think part of it is that it may float, the baby can push over and the whole think just isn't stable. But if used with VERY careful supervision it can be done.

I wouldn't use the bumbo in the bath. It just doesn't seem safe.

@Coco Bee: we have a tub that grows with her. It started with the infant seat which sits in a little tub. When she could sit we took the infant seat out and now she sits in the little tub. When she's big enough for the real tub the little tub turns into a kneeling pad for me.

We never gave our boy baths. We just take him in the shower with us. When he was really little I just put him on a towel. After that we did use a bumbo a few times until we got a bath seat online. Now he crawls and walks around the shower.

@brownie: yes, I shower with him too. But I shower in the morning. I'm thinking that I want to create a night routine with bath time now that he's 3 months old and able to grasp the concept of a routine.

My son is 17 months old and we still use his bath tub. It's a lot easier than filling up the adult bathtub and he's well contained. They're cheap enough that I wouldn't think twice about not getting one.
I wouldn't use a Bumbo in the bath either, they're not made to deal with water and they could slide around. I don't have mine anymore to see if it would actually suction to the tub, I am curious to know though.

You can use the infant/toddler tub for at least a year so i think it is worth the money.

We got rid of our infant seat early on because it was WAY too hard. Now I have a ring seat that attaches to the side of the tub so she can sit up.
I've also heard great things about the inflatable tubs that sit inside a larger tub. I think they are great because you use way less water and the edges are soft. Plus for like $12 you can't beat it!

We got the fisher price whale tub and it has a little ledge seat in it for newborn and then you can take it out when they get bigger. LO is 2 months and probably 13-14lbs and she still uses the little ledge seat. It's only like $15 new.

My LO goes in the kitchen sink on a blooming bath mat. It works well and I got it on mamabargains.com for 50% off.
We have a free standing cast iron tub, so I can't really kneel to bathe her because it is awkward, so this has worked for us!

@jessiejo17: the only thing that stinks is it takes a while to dry because it is so plush, we wring it out as best as possible and then hang it in the bathroom on a pant/skirt hanger to finish drying.

We are still using an infant tub @ 13 months, so I think they are worth the money
