@redeyedtreefr0g: I could be wrong but most doctors want you to try without medical intervention for 6 months to a year before testing. This might include a semen analysis.
To be honest, male fertility is just as sensitive a topic as female fertility, so I wouldn't want to put my husband through that just so I wouldn't have to go on birth control. To me, it would be like my husband saying, "can we see if all your eggs are 'bad' so I don't have to worry about pulling out?" But, of course, everyone's relationship is different.
Rather, I would use birth control until the time comes to try, try for several months and then go from there. I get the feeling from your previous post that you arent sure if or when you will have kids, so I might opt for something like Mirena.

I would strongly urge you against the "well, you're infertile anyway" method of birth control. One, even if he did have problems, it's unlikely he'd be 100% infertile. Two, it'd likely be quite harmful to your husbands self esteem. Three, does your DH want this info right now or just you? Because the answers will have a big impact on him. The main test for makes is a sperm analysis, which a doctor may recommend if you are having trouble conceiving. But most wouldn't recommend doing until you've been trying for a while, likely 6 months. Four, just because the SA is off doesn't mean you won't conceive. My DH had a severe morphology issue and borderline motility...it took us 9 months to conceive (which is actually in the range of normal) but we did so naturally.

@redeyedtreefr0g: Yes you can, My DH went to the GP, got a referal letter to get the SA done and that was it. Three days later got the results. Wasnt the results we were looking for but atleast we know now.
