I'm in the market for a long sleeve rash guard. I've been looking at LL Bean and Land's End, but wondering about the quality of those compared to each other. Or if there is another brand out there that is better!

I like Athleta's rash guards. If you're actually surfing, go for one of the slightly thicker ones (I'm not actually sure if they make them anymore, I don't see them on the website!). The Pacifica ones are kind of thin and the zipper comes down too low to make them usable for that purpose. But they're fine as swim shirts.

I have two from lands end that I have been really happy with! I think both lands end and LL Bean are good quality but I liked the fit better from lands end when I was shopping. These are the two I have:

@LulaBee: I have the same swim tunic as @catgirl: and it's great!

This is probably a dumb question, but you wear a rash guard over your swimsuit right? And then it provides uv protection? And I assume black would make you pretty toasty? I know I have one for my toddler, but because she's little she just uses it as a swimsuit.

@Mrs. Goose: my black one isn't bad heat wise, and I wear either a bikini top, a one piece or a sports bra under it.

@Mrs. Goose: Yes on top of another top... I def need another top since I'm busty... The girls cannot swing free lol!

@snowjewelz: @tinyperson: thanks! Do you need to put sunscreen on underneath? And so you find it helps with sunburn? I think I'm going to look into one of these vs a one piece swimsuit!

I have the tunic one @catgirl: posted from lands end and I like it, though I hardly went swimming in it, I only wore it to a splashpad type thing with the toddler. It fits looser, more like a t shirt than bathing suit.
I also really like the athleta Pacifica one I have. Mine has cap sleeves so def still need sunscreen on my arms but it saves me having to do my shoulders and back. The fabric is thinner so I feel like it would wear out more quickly but it's cooler, even in black.
@Mrs. Goose: I wear a sports bra or bikini top underneath. I don't put sunscreen underneath but since neither of mine are long sleeve I still put it on my arms and my neck. Never gotten a burn through one.

Thanks everyone. My mom has 30% off at Lands End, so it looks like I'm going to order from there. I feel weird because I always wear black suits but don't think a black rash guard is a good idea. I'm not really a floral/bright color person.

@honeybear: not actually surfing- just pool and maybe beach with the kids. I'm prone to skin cancer though, so thick sounds good.

I have lands end and llbean ones and both are "fine". Athleta and coolibar have some nice ones for a splurge!

@LulaBee: I've never had a problem with a black rash guard. Whenever I get warm I just wet it. Then I stay nice and cool.

Athleta! Love them.
Also coveting one from Albion- so pretty!

@LulaBee: The Pacificas are fine for sun protection if you want to go that route. I use mine for swimming all the time and have never been burned. I really like the arm pocket on mine. Nice to have a spot to stick the shells and sea glass my son hands me.

Haha!! I was going to recommend Land's End and LL Bean, but I see those are already the ones you are looking at. Both are great quality- but have different fits. If you are able, I would see if you can try them on. I've found LL Bean's things slightly more boxy usually.

@Lahela017: I don't have stores near me and don't want to order from multiple places. I'm bigger around the middle (hello, diastasis recti) so maybe LL Bean would be better because it's boxy?

I bought a couple on Amazon. I ended up keeping the one with a zipper because it was so much easier to get on and off. Something to consider.

@LulaBee: Yes, I'd try LL Bean then. Another great thing about them is that they have free shipping. (Plus, I have their credit card, so any returns ship back for free too). If you do try Lands End and don't like it, you can also return those for free at any Sears store too. Either one should be ok- just check the reviews for the fit, but my guess is the quality would be about the same for both.
